“Loud, Angry music and a 21 year old manager without a clue...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Four of us just wanted a relaxed and quiet meal before going to a show. Keep in mind that Sarasota median age is probably some distance North of 50, but Applebees had a "Kid's trivia night" on Tuesday when kids eat free..There are four kids in the entire restaurant, three of them too young to be able to answer question such as "What is the PH of water" to win a cheap Frisbee. On the other hand, there are six or eight tables occupied by people who look more like AARP members. After three requests to have the music volume lowered, Marrissa, our 21 year old "manager" came to sell us the value of Kid's Trivia night...As if I cared.....What company in its right mind puts a cocky 21 year old without a clue in charge of a busy restaurant that serves mainly seniors and adults?. Even the waitresses wanted the music down...
So eventually the angry music's volume went down and the meal arrived. OK, just OK. The Ceasar's salad was overpowered with liquid dressing I could have scooped with a spoon, the sandwiches were OK but nothing to write home about and the trivia guy continued unimpeded to ask 4 year old questions such as "What is the Capital of South Dakota"...After all was said and done, 2 beers, a glass of "something touted as white wine", a sandwich and a Ceasar salad came to over $45 bucks. Oh, the Service was good and Heather who did everything she could to to mediate a truce between the 21 yr old without a clue and us deserved a full 20% tip...Total $over $55.... For Applebees? Doubled with Aggravation? You've got to be kidding!!! Never again!

“Freezer to the Table”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Applebee's has a nice menu overall, but most of everything they do is pre-fab freezer, cooked by prescription, and to the table. The concept is based on standardized mass appeal, so what you get will be more than edible. Just don't look for any real wow factor or surprises from your meal.

“Gave it one last try”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

I had not been to Applebee's in years, but it was in the neighborhood I was visiting the other night, so I thought I would give it one more try. I ordered the French dip as a takeout. It was awful. Never again...

“Stinky”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Both my daughters used to wait at Applebees. The sensory memory I have most is the rancid greasy odor one has after having been inside for any amount of time. I have gone a half a dozen of so times and remember primarily the fetor greasy smoke. The food, atmosphere, and service were borderline unremarkable and poor. For a somewhat sorry experience the prices may have been too high. I try to avoid it if possible.

“a good deal every time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Service and a great price with really surprising good food. The staff is always pleasant and they spend that extra effort to be sure everyone is happy. Just opening the door and welcoming starts things right-and the same when leaving makes it feel like a warm and comfortable place
