In a non-descript corner of a shopping center on Fruitville and Lime is a delightful breakfast and lunch spot that delivers fresh food, friendly service and reasonable prices seven days a week. This updated version of the original Silver Star has new owners, a retro '50s interior and daily specials that run the gamut from fluffy tropical pancakes to homemade soups and stews. My favorite choices are the omelettes, which start at $4.95 and feature sauteed vegetables and a choice of potatoes, grits or fruit without an up charge. Brandy's biscuits, a stuffed homemade breakfast sandwich, always sell out. And if you choose to dine on Fridays, the homemade fish and three-cheese macaroni and cheese are unrivaled,
Manager Brandy also makes the homemade desserts and ensures that the service is friendly and fast. She and owner Toni make Silver Star feel like a home away from home and have a loyal following year-round. In season, there may be a wait for seats during breakfast rush. This little urban oasis is defintely worth a visit.
