The search for good Mexican food in Sarasota is over. In a city that prides itself on cuisine and has a sizeable Hispanic population, it was always a mystery as to why there was no "haute Mexican cuisine." Now there is. This restaurant, apparently after a seven-year hiatus, has returned to again offer fine south-of-the-border fare. Our group, devotees of Mex and Tex-Mex, had a ball trying many dishes on the menu. Let's start with the basics. The litmus test for me in the Mexican category is the refried beans. They actually care about this side dish here. They are not the gloopy, black goo that you often see. The beans, although refried, are still visible, have a thick consistency and are attended by a wonderful flavor. The chips and dips are spectacular. "Chips" is the wrong word for these giant-sized, crispy delights that can hold a ton of salsa. We did the burritos, tacos, fajitas and enchilada plates. The ample servings were fresh, flavorful and , how's this for Mexican, well-plated! Good selection of Mexican beers - on tap ( a real treat) add to the enjoyment. The service was efficient and pleasant. Our table of six got their drink orders and the first round of appetizers right away - even though the place was busy. With a great atmosphere and price value, this is THE place for Mexican food.
