Toasted Mango is a good place for breakfast or lunch. The line out the door is a clear indication that the locals are smitten. The protein wrap for breakfast is a go to item for the health conscious and most breakfast items are straight forward and very good. The Rueben is terrific and they put out real french fries, instead of the standard frozen fare. The biscuits with mango butter and drizzled with honey are amazing. The staff is friendly, and service is solid.
Toasted Mango does have some shortcomings.
Parking is a challenge, but that is hardly the fault of the restaurant.
The management could work harder to add more tables to the place or do a much better job in turning over the limited seating that they have. There is room for at least two more tables on the outside patio. One very large table inside is rarely used and could be replaced with 4 tables of two, or two 4 tops. The kitchen seems able to keep up with their fast pace, but it seems that they could easily add 10-15 more seats to accomodate the brunch rush. We try to go here more often, but usually just leave due to the long wait. Unless the code won't allow it, they could also add seating to the front porch where we often wait for a seat.
The decor is a little drab and lacks the charm of the food and the staff. Drab plastic tan cloths adorn the tables and the place looks much less charming than it really is.
The pancakes were excellent, it is too bad they cut corners by not serving real maple syrup. I do not want to start my day with the Sysco fake maple flavored syrup.
What Toasted Mango does right compensates for its shortcomings. I suspect a new or a second location that is not in a strip mall would be a welcome addition to Sarasota.
