“Don't waste you money!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

After enjoying many wonderful afternoons for tea in the Lobby and exceptional evenings for dinner at both the Ca d’Zan Bar and the Vernona Dining Room at what used to be a lovely hotel I had the unfortunate experience of dining at the newly renovated restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. All I can say is that their new Genral Manager must have come from Motel 6 is he thinks there is anything appropriate with their redo for a Ritz-Carlton Inappropriate, incongruous, ill-concieved, disgusting all come to mind. If it isn’t bad enough that they ruined a perfectly beautiful hotel – dessert came on a baking pan in a pint Mason jar – at the Ritz-Carlton! – the Cracker Barrel does better than that! Even if the Ritz was a place for “cute” there isn’t anything appealing about dessert in a Mason jar. I read in the newspaper that they were creating “casual elegance” – with Mason jars? What they have done just doesn’t fit the place inside or out. Their GM should go back home to Hawaii – maybe the gullible there would accept his idea of “the New Gold Standard” and the “Ladies and Gentlemen” of the Ritz! What ever taste he has is in his mouth. I threw away my copy of Mr. Michelli’s book “The New Gold Standard” this afternoon – just more meaningless corporate hogwash.

I won’t be going back and I would encourage you to NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY!

Room Tip: We only ate in the restaurant where we have dined often. I can say from my one stay that the rooms...

All I can say is wow. If only all hotels could be like this. Had the privilege to spend six nights on the club floor here last week. The service was simply amazing!
The property is located at the harbour close to downtown Sarasota. Guests have access to the Beach Club a short shuttle ride away. The rooms are nice, furnished well and a decent size. Yes - when you flush the toilet, it sounds like the Space Shuttle taking off - but I can live with that. The Beach Club pool is great - nice size and right on the beach.
From the valet, to the doorman to the crew on the club floor - kudos! Job well done. I mean all of these guys go out of their way to help. All hotels could learn from you.

Fab resort hotel with all the usual trappings you'd expect for the fees.
Only issue is the split resort concept - traveling twenty minutes or so to the beach was after a few days a bit of a bind.
Paying for wi-fi is a niggle!

If this rating was solely based on the Beach Club and it's staff, I would have given it a 5. The pool and beach are gorgeous, staff beyond helpful and the food delicious. However, the hotel in my opinion deserves a 1. And that is being kind! This is our 2nd time to this property in 6 months and during both visits, we have been abruptly woken up multiple times during the night by a) the obnoxiously loud toilets b) the paper thin walls for which you can hear EVERYTHING - word for word - that your neighbor is saying or watching on TV c) the slamming of the doors that reverberate down the hall and literally sound like someone is walking in your own room. During our first visit, we informed the front desk that it appeared that our room had a problem, however, this stay we had an entirely different layout and floor and it was still an issue.

We love the pool/ beach and proximity to adorable St Armand's Circle but I doubt that we return because of the noise issue. So disappointed. Will try Naples Ritz Carlton next time.

Room Tip: Don't get a room with an adjoining door.

My room had a lovely view of a marina and the hotel pool. I thought the room was average. The bathroom though was very good & well stocke with travel tooth brush, nail file, razor etc.
I used the gym which was big. I gave service a 4 as the male attendant at the spa was really slow and unhelpful. Everyone else I encountered was amazing and without this small experience I'd have easily rated service a 5.
I had dinner at the bar in dustys. It's such a fabulous concept bar/restaurant very cool, relaxing, welcoming and just all in all tasteful. Loved the menu, could have tried one of everything! Had shrimp to start that you peel yourself - good size serving and very tasty. Lobster roll was too buttery for my liking. Bar drinks looked great and the atmosphere was lively and friendly. Wish all RCs had a dustys.
I really liked the nice touch of a welcome note in my room and a plate of delicious fruit that I had after my workout.
I'd go back for a work stay again in the area or for a holiday break. The hotel is walking distance to the center of Sarasota which looked nice. I went to the whole foods there - it was one of the best ones i was ever in.
I would highly recommend staying here.

This is a good quality hotel .....it does however have some serious issues with noise...and we had a club level room for 4 days.Firstly the toilet flush system is a nightmare and sounds horrendous ( I am not joking here this can be heard 3 rooms away & it is just unacceptable)! Secondly the room doors and locks slam shut and when the cleaner was attending to the next room we thought she was actually coming through the wall. Serious maintenance/ design issues here I am afraid that good service cannot correct!
On the upside - the club level staff were excellent, the club room food and drinks were very good, and the beach club was very nice(but 4 miles away). The golf course although 12 miles away is good but overpriced and set up for holiday golfers with rough so short and fairways wide that the challenge was simple. Dont expect a set up like PGA National, Doral,TPC Treviso or Twin Eagles but it is priced as if it were! Oh and no self parking at this hotel.

A good location, very good service and spa experience did not make up for the overall experience at this hotel. I thought the staff and service was very worthy of a Ritz Carlton but the room did not meet my previous experiences with this brand. The walls were so thin I could hear the complete conversation of the room next door. I tried to stuff towels in the adjoining door but still could hear everything. The bathroom was very dated with a toilet that flushed like a cannon. The bathroom were amenities were equal to a Marriott. The hotel was fine for a "regular" Marriott but not up the Ritz Carlton standards. Just needs an updating and a makeover.

Room Tip: Just make sure there is no one on either side of you!!!
