“Nice Property - Very "Springhill"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012

Overall, a very nice property - and very much your stereotypical Springhill Suites.

Check in was handled quickly by a very pleasant reception clerk. Room was typical Springhill - a mini suite with high ceilings, a front sitting area with a couch, upholstered side chair, end table, and coffee table, with an adjacent work area / mini "kitchenette" with a microwave, fridge, and small sink. Bedroom had 2 double beds, and the bathroom was spotless.

Plenty of room for relaxation and work. I've always found that the high ceilings create somewhat of a spartan feel to the rooms, even though they are anything but spartan. For this class hotel, I prefer Hyatt Place, but having said that, this Springhill Suites property is quite nice and comfortable.

Coffee in the lobby, with a self-serve breakfast in the morning. I believe that the coffee is available 24 hours a day, as I picked up a hot cup on my way back to the room at 10:30pm Sunday evening. There's a small "market" selling snacks, light meals, and other necessities adjacent to the front desk.

Location is adjacent to the Sarasota airport on University Parkway. Close by are the Ringling Museum, a variety of food choices within a 5-7 minute drive, and shopping.

My only complaints were: 1) The desk chair, which had adjustable height, didn't adjust high enough for the desk it is used at. I don't know if this is the same in other rooms, but I'm mentioning it because I encountered it. 2) Rates tend to be a bit on the high side. There are many less expensive motels in the area, at varying levels of quality, so if price is an issue, you may wish to search around before settling in here.

Senior discount (age 62+), AAA discount are available when booking at marriott.com.

Driving a bus can be a challenge at times, specially with Motels who don’t have actual "bus parking" This motel does not have that, but they were extremely helpful in making sure I had a parking area for both nights that we stayed here by roping off a section of there lot for the bus. It is a small lot and very tight to maneuver in but doable.
Motel and the grounds is very clean and the Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is OK, just nothing to write home about. My room was roomy and comfortable with 2 Large HDTV’s. and a nice cozy bed. Good water pressure in the shower. The motel is across from the airport and I never once heard a jet fly over the Motel when I was in my room. They have 2 benches near the front door for US smokers. The Pool area was well maintained and clean.
Traffic was never an issue with getting out of the parking lot onto the main road to head down to route 41. There are allot of restaurants within an easy drive of the motel but nothing with in walking distance. No convince stores in walking distance either So stock up before checking in!
Most of my motel stays are for business reasons but when I do vacation I would stay here again no problem.

The rooms are depressing. Old furniture. Very little room. Waffle maker at breakfast didn't have spray to keep from not sticking.

The broght spot was the staff was very friendly.

Bathroom sink wasn't cleaned

We checked out and moved to the Courtyard next door.

There are many nice hotels like this around airport but we stayed here because we are Marriott point people. There was a Marriott Courtyard next door. No shuttle but hotel pays taxi to bring you to hotel from airport and return you which is less than 5 minutes.

Rooms are like Jr suites with living area separated from sleeping area. Nicely decorated, lobby nice and staff very friendly. Comp newspapers.

Breakfast great: Eggs, Sausage, Make your own Yummy Waffles, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Cereal, Juices, Bagels, Coffee and so on. Very pleasant dining and plenty of replenishment.

Beds great.

I really recommend this hotel and will return next year. Were visiting relatives so airport location was just fine. Never heard a plane.

Room Tip: Nice location - good view and not right on top of another hotel.

Although this hotel is literally next to the airport, it worked out to be a wonderful central location for our visit to the Sarasota/Bradenton and general gulf coast area. The rooms are large and spacious (we requested a rear pool view and received it). The hotel is across the parking lot from a Residence Inn and down the street from a Hyatt. Breakfast is very nice and handy plus they make freshly baked cookies and serve a lemonade type drink in the afternoons after 3:00. Coffee, tea and cocoa are available 24 hours a day, complimentary. My only complaint about this hotel is that the staff does not present a good selection for nearby restaurants and they do not have a map of the immediate area. The only seafood restaurant they recommend is "Barnacles Bill" which is right around the corner. We skipped this place and opted for Anna Marie's Seafood, which is more highly recommended here on Trip Advisor. The management should take the time to type up a small list of area locations, along with a map since this is the #1 question asked by most guests. Other than that, I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view facing the rear; it's quieter.

We stayed at this property while visiting the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, after we attenpted to book another Marriott Hotel through our rewards program and they would not give me the government rate. This hotel agreed to give match the government rate of the other Marriott family hotel down the road so we booked. The location could not have been better. We could have walked to the museum if it had not been so hot. We booked a King suite with a pull out couch for our son. It was a little musty but the bed was clean and confortable and it was big enough for the three of us. It wasn't run down per se, but it was not nice and new and polished. It took forever for the room to get cool, and wehn it finally did, we were all freezing with our teeth chattering. Not enough for us to request a room change though. The pool was nice and we visited the hot tub later in the evening. It was nice and hot, but after 10 minutes we couldn't take it anymore. Very soothing dip. Breakfast was adequate; standard for a hotel of this caliber. The breakfast was a little loud with a girls volleyball team sharing the dining room with us, but no biggie. Overall it was decent for the money and the proximity and cleanliness was worth the price.

Perspective: I travel weekly for business and typically stay in medium priced hotels to achieve a good balance of cost to my company and reasonable comfort and sleep quality for me. All I expect is Clean, Quiet, and Efficient.

This Springhill has the typical layout for this brand and other TA members have detailed it in their reviews, so I won't repeat that information. Everything was fine, except:

This hotel is near a very busy road. Because of this and because of other TA member postings, I asked for and received a room at the end of the hotel away from the road. The front desk clerk was very accomodating. If the AC/Heat unit would have had a continuous fan setting while on AC, it would have been acceptable. Unfortunately, this hotel has chosen to program their units so the fan cycles on and off with the AC compressor. The front desk said all their rooms are like this. When everything shuts off (5+ times per hour), the road noise is very evident. And each time the unit comes back on, the change is startling. Since I was by myself, I ended up moving to the sofa bed in the living area in order to sleep.

Everything else was fine. But the AC programming is a knock out factor for me. It's a shame, because it would be so easy for this hotel to fix the problem and keep my business.

Room Tip: Get as far away from the road as possible
