Description: Welcome to Pomona Bistro and Wine Bar. Designed and flavored by two of Sarasota's most sought after chef-restaurateurs -- executive chef Ryan Boeve and pastry chef Arthur Lopes, we strive to offer the finest and freshest local ingredients in a varied menu that reflects the diversity of the chefs. Only organic produce is used. Small plates, salads, main plates and desserts are handcrafted every day in a menu emphasizing the flavor of Florida's nuanced seasons. A full-time sommelier recommends wines to complement the food menus and please your palate. The wine list evolves throughout the seasons with heavier reds in the winter and lighter whites and roses in the spring and summer.

“Great evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

Started with a call for a reservation and spoke to Arthur. Nothing was available for the time i needed. But, he took my name and number and put me on a list if there would be a cancellation. He said he would call me either way so I could make other arrangements. About an hour later he called and said he had a table available.
We arrived about ten minutes early and were being shown to our table when Arthur made it a point to find us and introduce himself to us and welcomed us.
Our server Jason was excellent and informative and sent the sommelier to us to recommend a wine. He was very helpful and informative and aided is in a perfect section.
Sitting at their kitchen table we were able to watch a very professional And talented staff prepare many meals.
The whole experience was excellent and very enjoyable I highly recommend it. Well done Arthur Jason and Ryan. Cheers

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

This was my second visit and both were disappointing. The menu had Inspiring choices but both chicken and fish meals were over cooked. Service was neglectful. We had to serve our own wine and repeatedly asked for water glasses to be refilled. The setting is elegant with nice outdoor seating but this does not make up for poor overall experience.

“Yes, an excellent restaurant.........but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

It is interesting that in the time this place has been open not many of us have heard of it. Am not sure why that is. However, when we did hear about it - we went with some friends. It seems to be THE place for being seen this season in town - which is not exactly my/our style (just that we don't need to be seen.......).
The service is very professional - with a couple of levels that might make it a little bit overboard. Nevertheless, the service was impecable. And the food was excellent. The only thing I object to at places like this is the actual food meeting MY understanding of what the menu/waiters describe. Yes, Americans all overeat and portions are 'way out of'. Sometimes, however, I find the amount of food provided at the price tagged for it to be a bit out of sync. Their wine pours were very appropriate for the price paid though and they had some good selections.
We (two of the four of us) compared Pomona to two other like places and found it better than one/not so of the other. So I'm not sure we would go back......but I do still recommend it.

“A Pearl in the Oyster”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This was a special night...a birthday celebration with friends we have known for 45 years. Pomona Bistro was chosen by the "birthday girl" based on a food blog she follows. We were after a place where we could talk, white table cloths, elegance, good service and good food. Ponoma Bistro did not disappoint.
Firstly we were looked after by Arthur, owner, pastry chef and server...and by his own admittance schmoozer...but just the right amount...ask for one of Arthur's tables...obviously he is well informed re the menu and preparation . And he makes the pastries himself. A must is the chocolate soufflé! Expensive and worth every bit of the price.
Being a gal from Nova Scotia I am very much used to excellent mussels... But these were perfection...so go for it...as was the Ceasar salad....
A highlight main course was the lamb.... And one for which the restaurant provided small and larger portions to suit all appetites.
Squab and flatiron steaks were given only moderate accolades.....but both were very well prepared and obviously not on every menu in town.
We were very impressed with the wine list....very well organized and something not seen before -the bottles were arranged according to price In their broader categories of red and white. The prices were very reasonable especially compared to Canadian prices per bottle in eating establishments.
We selected a Burgundy pinot noir and were very happy. This restaurant has a sommelier on staff who was very helpful and not intimidating.
A delightful evening.. And one which we plan to repeat for the same birthday in 2014 if life is kind to us.

“Could be my new #1 favorite...?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

This was my first visit and I intend to go back soon so I hope it upholds the standards they set. The atmosphere is very pleasing to the senses, crisp table settings spaced well, just the right amount of light, black-shirted waiters at the ready. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful in just the right balance. Had a nice easy discussion on the wine list, which is extensive but not overwhelming. The salad was quite a presentation in itself. He recommended the oysters on the half shell, commenting on the taste of the different oysters. When I asked him if he had actually tasted the oysters or was just reading a script, he assured me he had eaten them and his evaluations were right on. The sea bass/scallop and veal risotto main courses were excellent. The owner/pastry chef visited us a couple times and talked us into his special cheesecake. Wow! We opted for one glass of the port the waiter was touting and he brought it in two glasses- a very thoughtful touch. And it was just as good as he warned us. A fitting end to a fine evening.
