Well, yes, we’ve been several times over the year or two it’s been open. Have had varying service –sometimes vague and vacuous, sometimes good. Food usually a solid B.
So yes, the leader of our film group set us up to go about 4pm after a Burns Court film. Small group, less than 10. Some people got there a few minutes after 4 – the film finished at 4:15. The hostess was draconian and must we say MUCH less than welcoming. Though we had made arrangements, NO ONE was allowed to sit at the table until ALL (including those who needed rest room breaks) had reported for head count. We, the hapless patrons in the room, though obviously the ones paying the check, meekly awaited the bidding of Queenie the Hostess. Can we mention that less than 20% of the tables were occupied at this early hour, and some of our party were using canes? Maybe the owner punishes people who don’t honor the “do not seat incomplete party” rule, regardless of the circumstances. The results aren’t good.
Our server was quite good – efficient and kind. She got an extra tip. Hope the hostess is not in the tip pool.
Food was OK. Salads, soggy, with bruised lettuce. Crabcakes obviously pre cooked and barely warm, though good lump meat. Fish was OK—though no one was raving. Wine pours barely in at 4oz, and markups quite high. (Think $9 for a wine that probably retailed at $12) And yes, the place is cute and quaint—but good looks only get you so far.
We are looking for other more welcoming venues with better quality food, both as a group and personally. This place is always crowded—yes, location, location, location.
