Description: The idea of MoZaic restaurant came alive more than ten years ago while brainstorming words that could define the kind of cuisine, service, and atmosphere we desire to bring to our guests. The Southern French- and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine is flavorful, fresh, and fits into the healthier lifestyle popular in Southwest Florida. MoZaic is committed to a guest-friendly cuisine that is seasonal and market driven, utilizing fruits and vegetables from local farmers and seafood from surrounding waters. Chef Dylan Elhajoui offers a cuisine that is adventurous yet familiar, innovative yet disciplined, expressive yet intelligent. It's southern European, western Mediterranean, and uniquely American-flavors of the modern mosaic-utilizing familiar influences from cultures that create beautiful mosaics. They also reflect a mosaic of cultures, the diversity that affects their gastronomy in a rich and delicious way. MoZaic restaurant reflects all of these influences, which in turn will attract a mosaic of guests-many cultures, colors, ages-who love fresh, seasonal and wonderful food. The ingredients are familiar, but the expression of them is unique and satisfying, inspired and inspiring. What is Dylan's cuisine? Chef Dylan's cuisine originates in Morocco and the Mediterranean where an abundance of fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and fish are gathered daily. A country where so many cultures have left their marks: Carthaginians, Romans, Phoenicians, Byzantines, Moors, Spaniard, Jews, French, Berbers-a true mosaic of cultures. The Mediterranean is a hub where travelers, merchants, fishermen, and farmers gathered to buy, sell, and trade herbs and spices, and the earth's and sea's bounty. Dylan's cuisine reflects these influences from the western coast of Italy to the Rock of Gibraltar in southern Spain. The flavors include olive oil, tomatoes, garlic, lemon (fresh and preserved), eggplants, honey, fennel, aromatics, and so much more. The ingredients are not strange or exotic, but really quite familiar. However, the flavors are intoxicating. Mediterranean cultures create community around food. It's a celebration of the earth's goodness, setting the scene for friendly gatherings and sharing of experiences. MoZaic restaurant likewise will nurture this same type of community, becoming a friendly gathering place, but in a uniquely American way.

“Best dinner and service we've had in Sarasota!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

One week after Thunder by the Bay bike fest we left the Harley's at home for a special dinner - 17th anniversary of out first date. Parked my bike right near here last week having never noticed the place before - and I've lived and worked here nearly 19 years. So glad I ignored the other biker's review because this, by far, offered the best food and service we've had in SRQ. We've eaten at the most reputable of places in town from family to high end and Mozaic offered a truly great experience.

I'm sorry the hostess last week allowed her first visual impression of bikers to be negative. 99% earn good money, like to spend it in quality food and are generous tippers. Even if a bunch of us may get loud it is all in good fun and wait staff is well taken care of with generous tips for putting up with our jokes and such. Please instruct your staff to never turn away bikers because many, like us, are highly paid professionals who spend a lot of money on our bikes. The way we dress is just our self expression of living dangerously through our alter egos.

Back to our dinner: superb, superb service (thanks Jeff) wonderful ambiance. Just sorry we haven't tried it until now but we will definitely be back - perhaps on our Harley's and leathers.

To our biker friends - I believe MoZaic staff will do better next time. Too bad some were treated poorly but give this place a try and you'll be glad you did. To the staff - welcome bikers and they will be some of the best customers you will ever have the pleasure to serve!

“Stuck up and cheap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

This past Saturday we rode our harleys downtown for the Sarasota Bike Fest, we had a great time and a lot of fun until it started to rain. We needed a place to hide from the inclement weather and also we were a little hungry so we decided to check out the nearby restaurants. We love good food and nothing seemed appetizing except for selva gill. Selva was packed so we went up on main when we noticed mosaic which looked like an elegant upscale restaurant plus we have never been there and we heard a great deal about it. As we stepped in (and I wish we didn't) we were greeted by a harsh and hostile manager at the door with these unkind words "the restrooms are only for customers"; "I know, we saw the friendly sign at the door, actually we are here to have dinner" I replied; "well, we only serve wine here" she postulated. Oh my God, we haven't been insulted in a long time; "do I look like a drunkard hobo to you" I thought, but again she looked like a green manager looking for validation and wouldn't understand if I tried reasoning with her. She managed to seat us with disdain as if we were some kind of low life nuisance unworthy of her half-empty restaurant. The food was good but felt dry and sour with the uncongenial service and lousy ambiance. Hope she reads this review, and here is my two cents, we are normal decent people who have great jobs, we love to eat out and frequently dine out at great restaurants. we love to ride our bikes for fun from time to time and probably spend more than what she makes in a year just on the maintenance of our choppers. Of course we weren't fancy dressed up for the Ritz, but judging from how inhospitably we were welcomed and the cheesy surroundings, mosaic is no better than a cheap ill-run diner and for sure we will never step foot in this stuck up place again.

The unfortunate way in which you were treated this past weekend by a member of our staff is totally unacceptable! It is certainly not an accurate representation of Mozaic and our team. We extend our sincere apologies to you and your guests.
In no way, am I trying to justify or explain the actions of our hostess on that particular evening because there is no excuse for such behavior. However, during “Thunder by the Bay” bike weekend, our staff and as well as our customers (the ones that don’t cancel their reservations because of the event) have to deal with many situations that are not the norm for them. I’m not just referring to the noise, traffic congestion and lack of parking; I am talking about the abundant profanity, public intoxication, indecent exposure and verbal assaults.
Next year, before bike week starts, I will be sure to reinforce with our staff the importance of not allowing the environment that accompanies bike week to change the reality that all guests deserve to be treated with respect at all times. In hindsight, I should have had that discussion sooner…

“Terrific food and simple but upscale atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

This was our third visit and food seems to get better each time. I had a Tellicherry black pepper crusted rack of lamb that was just terrific and my wife had a green-lentil vegetarian dish with lots of vegetables atop it, also very, very good. This is not a "Middle Eastern" restaurant but it has flavors of the Mediterranean, and north Africa. Just a very interesting menu and excellent flavors that intrigue without overwhelming. Lack of a bar is unfortunate (but there are several good ones a few doors down) but an excellent wine list and a decent selection by the glass. Servers are excellent - warm, professional, but not trying to be your "buddy", which is good. Nothing ever sat unattended at the table yet they avoided the all too common problem of interrupting conversation or sweeping up one person's plate while the other is still eating. Atmosphere is warm, simple but upscale. You can not go wrong here.

We tried this restaurant on a packed night over Thanksgiving, the food was outstanding but the service was poor. It was worthy of another try which we did last night. This time everything was about as close to perfection as could be. Excellent service from a knowledgeable staff and a great meal. The menu is the most interesting I have seen since living in New York. It is time to put Mozaic on top of your favorite restaurant list.

We were taken to Mozaic by friends who have made this their go to restaurant and say they have never had a bad meal here. The meal was excellent. It is apparent that the chef has an incredible palate for combining flavors. The short ribs were fabulous and the lamb chops were the best I've ever tasted. The soups are a must try. The service was great. Looking forward to our next visit.
