My wife and I have been strong supporters of Mozaic over the years and in fact it is (correction was) my wife's favorite restaurant--over the years we have introduced 8-9 other couples to the restaurant's great food--for various reasons we had not been to Mozaic in about a year and decided to visit the restaurant with another couple (who were first time visitors) on Feb. 21/13. My wife and the other couple ordered sea bass while I ordered the duck. The sea bass meals arrived but my dinner did not. After five minutes or so I suggested that the others start their meal without me. My duck finally arrived and it tasted like it must have walked from Tampa as it was very tough. My vegetables were one very thin slice of a tomato and two green beans. The sea bass dinners were very small but the appearance was interesting and looked like all three plates were topped with a fried marshmallow--the appearance turned out to be correct as all three plates were extremely overcooked--my wife's vegetables amounted to a piece of beet about the sze of a sugar cube and an undercooked carrot. The other couple had the equivalent. I complained to the waiter regarding the quality and quantity of the food and asked whether there had been any changes in kitchen staff over the last year. He assured me nothing had changed and while I expected to hear from the manager after my complaint , nobody appeared at our table. We paid the bill ($270) and left. The next day I called and relayed my complaint to the manager, John, who assured me that he would review the matter and call me back to explain what had happened. That was over a week ago so I guess I will not be getting that explanation as to what happened. There has to have been personnell changes in the kitchen staff as it is hard to believe that these four pitiful mealscould come from the same kitchen we have experienced over the years. When you spend $270 for dinner, you expect the meals to be of decent quality and size. Unfortunately Mozaic has lost our support and we are advising the other couples we introduced to the restaurant over the years. Who knows, maybe the expansion of the restaurant is the source of their problems meaning they do not have proper management. Looks like one of Sarasota's better restaurants is becoming just another storefront. Leo M.
