“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

My wife and I met her son and his wife here for dinner. Her son is a local and he said this was an excellent seafood place. What he said was an understatement...absolutely superb and worth a wait for a table. Appetizer recommended is bacon wrapped scallops...exceptional! The other three had Lobster and Mahi Mahi; I had Sake Glazed Sea Bass. Personal opinion was the sea bass was "to die for." Everyone immensely enjoyed their meal. This is a must stop if in the area. They do have heaters on the patio...we opted to wait for a table inside. It was well worth the wait.

“Suburban Outpost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Along the University Parkway Corridor in northern Sarasota, there is a bevy of chain restaurants, such as Carraba's, Bonefish, Ruby Tuesday, Outback Steakhouse, Sweet Tomatoes, Stonewood, etc. etc. However, tucked back into a strip mall slightly to the east of I-75, you will find the Lucky Pelican. Not much on atmosphere, but always good, fresh, dependable food. Known especially for their seafood, preparation can be inventive or simple, whichever you prefer. I took a friend to lunch there recently to treat her for her birthday--I can't believe how cheap--my bill was under $15!! We both had the 1/2 salad (mixed greens with goat cheese, tomatoes, red onion, artichokes, carrots, croutons, and herb vinegrette) along with some yummy soup--changes daily. Had such a hard time deciding what to eat that day that I returned with another friend a few days later. Had lightly fried and deliciously moist, plump and tender oysters (think they had a corn meal coating--great balance of flavors) and sweet potato fries. Yeah, everyone's doing sweet potato fries now, but here they still taste like sweet potatoes and are done right. Also, tasted the fish tacos (Senor Oscar style) with Baja sauce, pumpkin seeds, lime, cilantro and cabbage for...$8.95. Never have room for dessert, so I can't tell you about that. If you are in this part of town, Lucky Pelican is a must!

“Looks Good, Tastes Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Crowded with good reason in the early evening (a given in age-friendly Sarasota), the fish dishes and fresh fish are wonderful, the clams-oysters-shrimp a bargain, and happy hour drinks a plus. I'll simply focus on the terrific fish and chips; the fish was crispy, generously portioned and hot. The slaw wasn't the greatest and the fries were a little old. But the service was terrific. The value is in the package. (If you're waiting outside, the traffic noice from I-75 is noticeable.)

“Great food, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

My wife and I really like this restaurant. Located in a strip mall with inside and outside seating, it is very popular amongst us retirees and working stiffs both! They have a printed menu plus many daily (mostly) fish specials. Just ate there last week again, and have never had a bad or even average meal. Happy hour gets 2 for 1 house wines, and perhaps discounts on beer as well. That all contributes to the crowd of retirees. But don't let that overshadow the great food!
