“Most impressive volunteer staff EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Perfectly sized facility so as not to overwhelm even the most reluctant "museum" goer. The staff was soooo helpful, friendly and knew just when to approach us with information and when to back off. I've never been to a facility with such impressive volunteers as these. You can tell they love being there to offer assistance.

Super excited to see my first ever manatees in-person. They are glorious creatures. The dolphin training was fun to watch and the trainers were more than willing to answer our questions and so pleasant.

This is a definite must-see when in Sarasota.

“Excellent ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

The Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is a must see attraction on the Sarasota bay. It is a fairly small aquarium that can all be seen within about an hour, so do not plan a full day around this attraction. Regardless of its size the aquarium hosts an amazing array of marine life such as tropical fish, sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, seahorses, manatees and even the only captive Atlantic spotted dolphin in the U.S. You can add to your aquarium experience by taking an excursion boat tour into the Sarasota bay to explore the mangrove forests and spot for dolphins and manatees. An additional fee is required. The aquarium is also a marine research center and laboratory. During the summer months they offer summer camps intended for all aged children that educate them about their research and the importance of ocean conservation. Highly recommended

“Great little aquarium”

One of our main stops in Sarasota, love the aquariums which are always clean and well maintained. Seeing the sea turtles so close up is very cool too.

“SRQ Visitor's Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

From the moment a volunteer greets you at the curb, this place entertains with genuine charm found in very few places. Kind of hard to find, once there budget enough time to see all Mote has to offer. Feel the enthusiasm from volunteers and paid professionals alike. Ask questions, have fun learning and be sure to bring the kids along for a good, saltwater treat!

“Finding Nemo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Taking a break from the beach, we took our grandchildren to Sarasota and The Mote . The facility is a teaching and actual working marine laboratory, with a tourist attraction thrown in. This is not Sea World- animals are in their natural habitat. There are wonderful, natural exhibits, with lots of information about habitats, life cycles and characteristics. The staff is friendly and informative. There is a temporary exhibit that is fabulous- how fish and amphibians have adapted to feed and protect themselves. Everything from puffer fish to poison dart frogs from the Amazon. It was fascinating.
If you have children, don't miss the hands on panning for shark teeth activity. $5.00, a bucket of sand and running water- my grandchildren loved it!)
I only rated 4 dots because of the hike between buildings. Florida in August and 3 parking lots away is daunting. Not the Mote's problem- their primary focus is not getting visitors from one place to another. ( now at Ringling, they have it down. Love the golf cart transport between buildings!)
Don't miss The Mote. It is worth a half day of your vacation .
