“Wonderful Aquarium Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This aquarium, though small in square footage, is HUGE in its collection of undersea life! We were so pleasantly surprised at how well maintained the tanks are and how informative the exhibits! The collection is amazing and entertaining and the aquarium is immaculate and well-laid out. We spend hours in the aquarium itself and then were fortunate enough to join a boat excursion leaving from the aquarium. The 1 hour and 45 minute boat ride took us through the Bay and to a private island while two biologist entertained and enlightened us on the marine life and ecosystem in the area. The highlight of the day was when the biologists threw out nets into the bay and brought up a huge collection of undersea life, which was explained and passed around for everyone to touch and explore. We saw sea sponges, crabs, many varieties of fish, snails, jellyfish, plant life and an adorable puffer fish! The day could not be better and I highly recommend this experience!

“Mote Marine is a great family attraction!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Mote Marine is great for a family to visit...especially with young children. This is not the same as the big names (like Ripley's Aquarium's, etc.). This a research facility that also has an aquarium and plenty of volunteers available to answer questions.

Our 9 year old son is an avid shark freak...he loved being above the shark tank at Mote and was mesmerized by watching them swim around just below the surface of the tank.

The volunteers that staff Mote are great for conversation and information. Supporting a facility like this also supports their direct research and rescue efforts.

Be sure to time your visit so you can see a training session with Moonshine the dolphin! It was very informational and fun. We all enjoyed this a lot.

“Not your average aquarium”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Mote is a functioning marine laboratory. The scientists work behind glass so that you can see their work. We were there wile they were studying jellyfish and seahorses. They were also teaching sea turtles to distinguish between colors and shapes. They actually put on a demonstration of what the turtles had learned. Fascinating place to spend the day.

“Nothing too exciting.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Its a very small aquarium, nothing too exciting. Your basic small fish, jelly fish, sting rays. They have a few manatees and 1 dolphin that is probably going to die of loneliness. Spend the gas money and drive to the tampa aquarium or to st.pete to see winter the dolphin from dolphin tale!
