“Great Place for the Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Our kids really enjoyed the aquarium. Although not as big as many we have visited, we enjoyed the fact that is it a working rehabilitation center and were happy be be able to support their efforts.

“Disturbingly thought-provoking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The small viewing aquarium has an interesting variety of small and fascinating sealife such as amazing colour-changing cuttlefish looking like little monsters straight out of Dr Who and evil looking conger eels. Extremely helpful and informative volunteer staff on hand to answer questions. Whilst this is a great place to see close up gentle giant manatees and sea turtles the size of the holding tanks in which they live is quite disturbing....OK, so these creatures, including one lone dolphin, are being used to 'further understanding' of the relevant species etc but to think that, given their average longevity, they will likely spend the next 40-50 years or so in these small, simple blue painted concrete tanks with limited natural stimulation is not an easy concept to come to terms with, albeit they have regular human socialisation sessions. But not quite the same stimulation as being part of a large social pod in the wild or having the world's oceans to range across as their own back yard.....so a mixed review....obviously a valuable resource for genuine sealife-saving and convalescence purposes and for research studies...but at what cost to individual freedom.?.I am not usually someone who bangs on about such animal rights type things either, really I'm not! But surprisingly disturbing. Also quite an expensive attraction - at $19 a head for adults and children 4-12 paying not much less with no family rate available...but if you want to wonder at the majesty of the manatee and can forget they have little room for manouevre - possibly this alone is worth the outlay.

“small but informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

wwe got there when they had opened at 10am and only went to the manatees and sea turtle and spotted dolphin because of time constraints. We really had a private showing with one on one volunteers. it was nice because all our questions were answered and the manatees really put on a show we could watch through the window. Then as it was our last day and the purpose was to see manatees went to the power plant in Tampa and saw them in the wild. Gift shop was very nice too

“Great fun for the whole family”

very well done aquarium with lots of species. The Nature Tour was wonderful, our 10 year old loved handling the local fish before returning them to the Bay
