“Not your ordinary aquarium!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

Mote Marine (as it's commonly called in Sarasota) is a working laboratory and a wonderful place to visit off the road toward Longboat Key. If you anticipate several visits (as many of us do), a membership is advisable. From small children to older visitors, there's something for everyone. No Shamu, no dolphin acts, but wonderful and informative displays. My favorite is the jellyfish tank - the lovely floating jellyfish look like an art installation! The giant squid is pretty awesome too - though long dead. A shark tank, plus another fish tank offer us views of both timid and dashing sea life. Another favorite is the stingray pool where visitors can touch the barb-ridden stingrays with skin that feels something like an olive. Across the street is the manatee facility which is also great to visit. Boat trips bring real-life experiences to visitors to this area and shouldn't be missed. I heartedly endorse Mote Marine as a great attraction in this area - especially if you don't go expecting Sea World.

“Good but small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Great experience with a lot to offer in terms of displays. Some visitors may be disappointed because it can't compete with large city aquariums. Lots of native species and their education and rescue efforts are most commendable.

“A wonderful attraction for all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Our 12-year-old daughter has recently taken interest in studying sharks and the oceans. We were visiting family about 90 minutes from Sarasota and surprised her with a visit to Mote.

It was a super day. We saw all the varied exhibits, including the adjacent wounded bird sanctuary, and took an Eco-cruise in Sarasota Bay.

It was an excellent value, lots of fun and a great day. I think it is a must for families with kids, and a great change of pace from the beach and shopping for anyone.

Those familiar with the sea and aquariums will appreciate the depth and variety of exhibits. Those visiting from afar will gain an appreciation for the natural beauty of the area that makes Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice a coveted destination.

Very conveniently located off St. Armand's Circle, easy parking and well worth your time.
