“Not your ordinary aquarium!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

Mote Marine (as it's commonly called in Sarasota) is a working laboratory and a wonderful place to visit off the road toward Longboat Key. If you anticipate several visits (as many of us do), a membership is advisable. From small children to older visitors, there's something for everyone. No Shamu, no dolphin acts, but wonderful and informative displays. My favorite is the jellyfish tank - the lovely floating jellyfish look like an art installation! The giant squid is pretty awesome too - though long dead. A shark tank, plus another fish tank offer us views of both timid and dashing sea life. Another favorite is the stingray pool where visitors can touch the barb-ridden stingrays with skin that feels something like an olive. Across the street is the manatee facility which is also great to visit. Boat trips bring real-life experiences to visitors to this area and shouldn't be missed. I heartedly endorse Mote Marine as a great attraction in this area - especially if you don't go expecting Sea World.

“Pricey for what is offered”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

The Mote is somewhat disjointed (the dolphin - as in singular and manatee are in another building which is a decent walk) and the presentation of the various tanks feels dated with very little in way of video or audio enhancement. At $17 for adults it is not really a great value unless you view your price as admission as more of a donation to their various ongoing research projects.

“Great place to see sea turtles and other sea life.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

A visit to Mote provides adults as children an adverture in the lives of sea life.
