I could not have enjoyed this place more. After a day of work in Niceville, I came here to get some R&R for the weekend. I was impressed with many different aspects of this place.
Communication - the website was clear and the ranger was incredibly nice and communicative. I arrived after 5 pm which meant the gate was closed and I needed to use a code to get in. It was a simple process and I easily found my way around with their creat directions. I even called to see if I could get some help starting the gas fireplace and was talked through how to do it.
Comfort - the cabins are more like two-bedroom houses that sleep six. In my little cul-de-sac there were four cabins and I think three families staying there total. If this were a big hotel, you'd all be right next to each other. Here, each family had half a duplex to themselves and we were spaced out. This was very considerate and a nice touch. The gas fireplace was great and the cabins also have a furnace/AC system if needed.
Beach/Nature - The beach is walking distance from the cabins [a little further if you're in loop 2 or 3, loop 1 is the closest] and lovely, white sand, very pretty. Not a lot in the way of shells, in case that's what you're looking for. I was there during a cold snap and had the entire place to myself. The nature walk, which is in the other part of the park and you need to drive a short ways up the road to get to, was terrific and interesting with lovely boardwalks and neat nature features.
Overall - These places are a hidden treasure. The cabins have full kitchens, back screened-in porches with rocking chairs, barbecue grills and 3/4 bath's [large showers, no tub]. There are even closets to store stuff. Everything was spotless and the linens were fresh from the cleaners.
The only thing that tripped me up was that unlike a hotel these places had no disposable items, so make sure you bring your own soap, shampoo, dish soap [dishwasher soap is provided] and extra blankets if you need/want them.
