We stayed at the Palm View last year and had a great time, a very quaint motel in a quiet area. We decided to go back to Sanibel for Memorial weekend, we wanted to stay at the Palm View again but was told by the owner that it was sold out.
After making several phone calls we found the Sandpiper Inn which happened to be next door to the Palm View. We told the owner we would be getting a late check in and she the owner told us we were in unit three and would leave us a key. We
arrived in Sanibel late about 11pm we found unit three with the key inside as promised.
The next morning after breakfast there was loud banging on our front door it was the owner shouting "what do you think you are
doing in here you are supposed to be in the Palm View"
This is when we realized she owned both places and said we were sorry and would gladly move to the Palm View which was a nicer place anyway.
I went to the car to see if I had the print out of the reservations and she screamed again "I don't give a xxxx what you think you don't belong here"
It gets better yet...
We told the owner we were moving into the Palm View as she requested and packed are bags into the car. Before going to the Palm View we went to an internet cafe so I could print off the reservations to show her. We were gone thirty minutes; we
came back my husband started to unpack the car to move into our new room and I went to tell the owner we were moving into the Palm View and showed her our reservations for the Sand Piper. Well while we were gone she rented out our room! Her
response was "I thought you had left the Island you
never told me you were coming back"
Why was there a key in unit three of the sandpiper if our reservations were not there? Also if it was an honest mistake on her part or ours there is a much better way to treat returning customers. I will never go back to that place again or reccommend it to anybody. Even though the motels are nice who wants to be treated like that while trying to enjoy a vacation.
There is more to the story but understandably I can not post the words used by the owner

I took my fiance to Sanibel for his birthday in April of 2006. We like to find little privately owned motels when we go to the beach, so when I ran across this place I thought it would be perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but had a couple of minor issues. First, when I called to make the resrevation I was lead to believe that the place was almost completely booked up, so I felt rushed into making a decision. When we arrived, there was no one there. We stayed for three night and with each hour that passed, we thought someone else would show up. But as it turns out, we were it...so it was really quiet the whole time. The only other issue was that we started to run low on towels and toilet paper very quickly, and we weren't sure how to get more. The manager never came around. We didn't speak with her until we were ready to check out. But anyway, these things are very minor and in no way would affect my decision to go back. The rooms are extremely cute, and they were very clean. We didn't see a single bug the entire time, which is out of the ordinary for Florida. The kitchenette had utensils in, the appliances worked, and the plumbing was fine. But beyond the necessities, it was very charming. I will say, though, that the free bikes, etc. that are available are not kept up and will probably not be of any use to you. When we arrived, we looked at the bikes and found that all of them had flat tires. But the walk to the beach isn't long, so we didn't care.

I would definitely recommend this property if you're open to staying in a place where the management would laugh at you if you asked about room service. It is not the Ritz, but it is a charming little inn with all the comforts of home just a short walk from the beach.

Rented 2 BR, K,and Bath for 4 nights. Very clean & quiet. 1&1/2 blocks from beach. Free parking. Kitchen included microwave, refrigerator, stove, utensils, and plates. We made good use of the free bikes. Also has hammock, BBQ out back with a small back lawn partially in shade with chairs to sit, read, and relax. Beach umbrella, beach chairs, noddles, plastic shovels, beach towels, etc also free. Adequate closet space. No VCR or DVD. Shower only. Local calls are free. Toll or long distance calls need to be made on a calling-card. Manager's office has washer/dryer @$1.00 per load. AC & Heat present. At least 2-3 steps up into rooms, so not totally handicap accessible.
Owner/Manager usually not on sight, but just a phone call away
& responsive & pleasant to calls. Hotel down the street has restaurant for all meals (within easy walking distance).

The Sandpiper Inn is located on a quiet Sanibel Island Street (Donax). It is a great place. There are four rooms that are rented and it is quiet and clean. I have stayed there twice and have had a great experience both times. Once you are there you can bike to whatever you want to do--Ding Darling, beaches, shops, or restaurants. It was such a wonderful experience, I look forward to visiting the Inn again.
