We decided on Mitchell's for a long weekend excursion and did not know what exactly to expect. Overall, we had an amazing time. Our stay was a refreshing respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The section of beach Mitchell's is situated upon is absolutely pristine and just breathtakingly beautiful. We visited during the down season, so we truly felt as if this was an exclusive private beach. The beach here was the most beautiful stretch of beach I have ever seen after visiting practically every beach in Florida in my 30+ years as a Floridian.
The cottages are very clean, quiet, and nicely outfitted. We could tell the place was recently renovated and little touches such as the kitchen cabinetry or the rich wood bathroom mirror cabinet, was fairly on the higher-end side. The cottages are entirely made of wood, with nice hardwood flooring throughout. Although, our efficiency was one of the smaller units, it still featured a central AC system that easily kept the unit cool during the hot August summer day heat. The flat-screen TV with hi-def local programming was a nice touch. Another nice feature was the numerous beautiful paintings throughout the cottage in a blend of surreal, nature, and impressionistic styles. The art complemented the beauty of the surrounding area perfectly.
We had a very comfortable sleep in the queen bed and basic kitchen utensils, etc. were provided. There was a nice patio, within a few hundred feet of the ocean and a nice view of the ocean as well ..this was certainly the nicest perk! A Weber barbecue is provided for each unit and guests have access to a nice pool, bikes, and even dingy's!
Visitors should keep in mind that Mitchell's is not a Bed and Breakfast. You are basically renting the beach unit, so there will not be daily room service. Basic kitchen utensils and cookware are provided, but guests would still need to bring condiments such as salt and pepper and basic items such as bottled water. Our room had quite accommodating service for two including plates, bowls, cups, glasses, coffee cups, a pot, pan, teakettle, serving dishes, dish-washing items, etc. A full kitchen was provided including stove, 4 burner gas range, sink, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, etc. At one point, my wife needed a hairdryer and found that there was not one provided. However, after a quick call to the office, we were able to get one out to us right away. The owners are extremely courteous and attentive and can help you with just about anything you need from dinner recommendations, to suggesting daily activities. This place is truly a hidden gem and made our Sanibel experience one to never forget. We hope to be back to Mitchell's again soon! This place is what Sanibel island is all about!
