“FANTASTIC location - good amenities - more cabin-like than hotel-like.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

If Tripadvisor would allow it, we would give a 4.5 stars. Our entire family loved the location, so close to the beach, major shell-combing opportunities everywhere, no other close-by hotels, in a quiet residential area. The amenities are nice (two 25 yardish pools, beach chairs, umbrellas, bikes - all included) and adequate. We did not use, but they have a couple/few laundry facilities, kayaks included, a small fitness center. This is a do-it-yourself type of place, with staff present and available, but not generally visible - it was a nice balance for us on Sanibel. The unit we rented was clean, with brand new towels / kleenex / etc in the unit at the start. The only downer was the latent perfumey smell inside the unit when we first got there, which did not seem to dissipate even with windows open. There was a beautiful pileated woodpecker in the evergreen closest to the beach. Note that it is clear on the website that these are low rise cabin-like units (with metal roofs), and some of them are connected so you hear fellow renters a bit more than the typical. The outdoor screen rooms are fantastic. One of the pools is available late night. Two air conditioner units and two fans give you multiple cooling options. Lots and lots of repeat renters should help you understand this is a nice place.

“Don't Tell Anyone About This Place....They Will All Come!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

The title is a direct quote from another guest at this wonderful property. We stayed with our family in the "Breakers".....3 BR, 3 Baths....not right on the beach, but so close that you can hear the ocean. Beach Chairs and Umbrella? Provided....Bicycles? Provided....Kayaks? Provided.....Shells and Beach....EVERYWHERE! Sunset and Sunrise visible from the beach! These are cottages, so don't expect a hotel atmosphere.....just a wonderful beach vacation!

“Didn't want to leave.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Got there late after an aweful 7 hour drive, should have been 4. Information envelope was where I was told it would be if I were late, cabin was easy to find with the lights on. I am always worried when booking at a new location but after walking into the cabin I was ready to begin my 4 days in heaven, beginning with a pineapple and vodka smoothie using the blender sitting on the counter. The kitchen was clean and equipped with new, higher end equipment. You will need to bring all you need, coffee, filters, salt, pepper, etc. We were in unit 2, right on the beach, 30 steps to the beach. The rest of the unit was exceptionally clean, no musty smell you find in beach rentals. Beds and linen comfortable. Bathroom small but all you need and clean. AC and heat, both needed, worked well. Both pools are heated and delightful, one closes at dusk the other has no closing hour, towels are provided at the pool. Laundry facilities are convenient, on property, and clean. The beach is awesome. Water was still warm enough to get into, shells were plentiful, not crowded. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, actually saw both at the same time one morning. Met several nice people at the resort and on the beach but in general very quiet and peaceful. Less than 5 minutes from Doc Fords, great food ate there twice. Pizza delivery one night, I think from Island Pizza, very good. The staff at the resort were very nice and helpful every time I had an inquiry. Would have stayed several more days if we hadn't made other plans, will be going back. Tips: Would take your own beach towels. Shop for groceries before you get on the island.

Room Tip: Email and talk to them. Joel was very helpful.

“Winner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Spent 4 nights in cottage # 4 and it was wonderful. It was a comfortable studio steps from the beach and it was SPOTLESS. The location is perfect for shelling, bird watching and using the free kayaks Mitchell's has provided right up at the beach. Plenty of places to lay down and read or snooze with gorgeous views. Bed was good as were the linens. The heated pools were divine and just perfect for the chilly nights we had in November. They also supply tennis rackets for their court. It was also SO quiet. Sold out and some families with children and not a peep did we hear. We can't wait to go back and try one of the other cottages with a gulf view. # 4 has a shared screen porch- just an fyi. The only thing we saw of our neighbors were their fighting conch shells drying on the table. We have stayed at a few places in this area and this is the best experience we have had. Thank you to the staff and our fellow travelers who made our four days heaven.

Room Tip: Try Seaspray or Seagrape

“Best Sanibel vacation ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

We returned to Sanibel for Thanksgiving week, and stayed on one of the cottages (#3) that used to be part of 4015, adjacent to Sandcastles. It was perfect for us--clean, comfy, plenty of space, wonderful outdoors area to sit, relax, and read. A minute walk to the beach for sunrises and sunsets. Very uncrowded beach on this end of West Gulf. We've stayed in several of the cottages at Mitchell's over the past few years, and each time feel they get even better. This one definitely has taken top place in our choices, and we'll certainly be back to enjoy Mitchell's hospitality as soon as possible.

PS, found another reviewer's criticism about ants surprising as their cottage and ours were connected, our stays were at the same time, and we never saw the first ant. I know from experience to keep all food well sealed in containers or the refrigerator to avoid attracting them to the kitchen. Cleanliness is not a problem in these cottages in my experience.

Room Tip: Some cottages have more space and equipment than others, if you plan to stay in and cook that might...
