“Relaxed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

We had drinks and then dinner in this very casual space. It was very informal, and there seemed to be a local crowd. The menu here was limited, but had enough choices for us. Also, there was live music which was the main reason we decided to stick around for dinner after only intending to have a drink here. We weren’t disappointed. We had our teenaged son with us, and even he was entertained by the band.

“Bad Service in The Bar/Pub”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

We went during happy hour but still... We ordered an appetizer when we first came in and wanted to order dinner but the waitress was just too busy. We ate our appetizer (mussels which needed more seasoning - garlic or something) and decided to leave.

“Open for lunch and it's a pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014 via mobile

I had the Filet Medallions on top of garlic toast with mushrooms, topped with two jumbo shrimp& side of rice pilaf. The Fillet was very tender & delicious. Husband had a flat bread pizza with chicken Jalapeno peppers & cheese. Spicy but good . The service was wonderful. I highly recommend that you try it!!

“Very Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

This location has a historic value to Sanibel Island.

You can dine inside or on the patio. They offer live music in the evenings and late nite lounge food. If the evening is a little chilly, dine on the patio, they have tall heaters amongst the foliage, fountains and twinkling stars from the sky
.
If you want fresh fish with and artful flair, the Jacaranda Restr. is the place to go. We were a party of four and the three of us had the fresh triple tail fish. I asked the chef to prepare the triple tail "oscar a la".
Oh my gosh, that was so good. They served the dishes hot with fresh vegetables that were prepared to perfection. My husband had blackened prime rib with a side of linguine and clams. That was a wow! The chef prepared each entree with a artful flair finishing with an orchid. The wine selection is good. The entrée's sizes are just enough. You will leave the Restr. feeling full if you choose. We had attentive service with a smile. We will definitely return to The Jacaranda Restr. Make a reservation or take a chance, stop in an ask for Patrick, he will make it happen.

“Second visit a year later, not as memorable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

A year ago, when in Sanibel, we visited the Jacaranda and we came away impressed. So on our first evening back in Sanibel this year, we felt we should return. This year the four of us decided to eat on the patio. The setting on the patio was quite pleasant; though even with the screening, it was a bit buggy. Should we ever return, we'll probably opt to sit in the dining room.
As last year, we arrived around 5:30 PM, when they serve their Sunset menu (from 5 to 6 PM). Also as last year, we were provided the regular dinner menu, and we had to request the discounted Sunset menu. Last year we thought the menu selection was an oversight, but it appears providing the regular menu during the "early bird" period is their normal policy. So should you visit during these times, be sure to request the appropriate menu. Service was ok, though one of our group had to request a slice of lemon four times, and it was never provided.
The food this year was not memorable. The bread was disappointing and the salads were just ok. Two of us had stuffed grouper, which arrived a bit dry and luke warm. One of us ordered the crab mac and cheese, which had minimal crab and mostly noodles and cheese, a definite disappointment. The fourth dinner was prime rib, which was the one entre which was well served. Overall, we felt it was an average dining experience. With three glasses of wine, tax and tip, the meal was $112 for four. Our group conclusion was the restaurant's value and distinctiveness had become diminished, and it is unlikely we will be returning in the future
