We decided to splurge and try this place. It was great dining with a view of the sun setting over thd Gulf. The service was also very attentive and friendly. The food was very good, not great, I just would have expected more for those kinds of prices.

“Quaint Upscale Eatery”

The Sunset Grill is a small (6 - 8 tables inside, 6 or so outside) upscale eatery on the west side of Sanibel just before Blind Pass.

Although my wife and I were dressed business casual, we were disappointed to see others dressed down as the plates here for dinner run on the pricy ($30+) side.

A word to parents - not a place for kids as the atmosphere was geared towards adults. (no distractions for kids in the slightest).

Our dinners were prepared with care and brought to us by a waitstaff of 2. We ordered fish that was prepared with flavor and style - paired it with a couple glasses of wine & finished things off with an absolutely delicious pear tart. (think pears meet sugar cookie)

Only downer was a loud group in the back of the restaurant. As there was no ambient music to drown them out, my wife and I could barely carry on a conversation. Also felt like the waitstaff could have been a little more cordial and attentive. They forgot to put in our appetizer order. That said, they humbly apologized for the mistake. I had hoped to see a little discount on the dessert but no dice. That was the only reason I didn't give them a 5.

I recommend this restaurant to any looking for a quiet, romantic, freshly prepared meal in an area typically void of quality food.

We stopped in here for lunch one day. Great spot directly across the street from the Beach. It is also located next to the Lazy Flamingo (Restaurant).

There is outdoor & indoor seating. We had a great lunch at the bar. They have some great wines. I only had a glass since we were heading to the beach. It was more than our average lunch but we didn't mind at all. Dinner would be expensive but worth it. Call for a reservation and ask for a seat next to the window, facing the water (stree side would be best!).

We will come here again :)

My wife and I had a late lunch and we split a crab cake appetizer, lots of crab but a little too much onion and we both had the crunchy grouper sandwich. I had a bottled water and she had ice tea. The place is small and quaint and they do have a few tables outside. If you want to dine for dinner make reservations. The food i.e. lunch was good but not outstanding. The bill was $47 without tip. i.e. a filler not a thriller!

We had dinner at Sunset Grill during Easter week and were pretty disappointed in a number of things. We had a very memorable meal here on New Year's Eve 2007 and decided to return with family members during spring break.

We were seated outside on the porch - it was all that was available when I called to make a reservation. When we were here in December, it was dark when we arrived and the weather dictated that we eat inside. The ambiance was great - candlelight, music, wonderful kitchen smells. The feel on the porch left much to be desired. You are basically sitting at the edge of the parking lot! We did get a peak of the sunset past the parked cars, across Captiva Drive and through the landscaping. But I would not choose the outside option.

Our server was just OK. She mentioned that this wasn't her real job and she only works now and then. It showed. Service was slow and somewhat unprofessional - a sharp contract to what we experienced in December when David was our excellent server.

Four of us ordered salads. The spinach salad was topped with portabellas, roasted red pepper and bacon bits but seemed too heavily dressed with a balsamic vinegairette. At $11, this was not a good value. The Ceasar, at $10, was even less desirable.
The bread with olive oil and herbs was delicious however.

Two of us ordered red snapper steamed in parchment paper - it was tender but lacked imagination. My husband did enjoy his sea bass done in a puff pastry. It was a hardier dish with more flavor than the snapper. One big reason we returned to Sunset Grill was because of the Buffalo Ribeye my husband had on New Year's Eve - it was amazing. My son could not wait too order it!

Unfortunately, his cut was fatty, overly seasoned and rather unappetizing. We should have sent it back to the kitchen but my teen is embarassed by that kind of thing so we let it go. At $36, we should have embarassed him!

Our bottle of wine was marked up more than what we saw at other Sanibel eateries during the week but we did enjoy it! Our total bill came to nearly $300 and we just did not feel the value was there. And to top things off, we all came home with no-see-um bites from that darn porch seating.
