Don't be put off by the exterior of this excellent restaurant. It not only looks like a shack on the outside, but the exterior is a shack. Also, the front parking lot is too small, but there is another lot behind the restaurant, though there is no sign pointing you to it.
However, once inside you will have an excellent meal with very good service. It is small so make sure you have a reservation [and don't wait for the day of your dinner to try to get one.]

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Mad Hatter. The attention to detail from beginning to end was very nice. We ordered the Phyllo Shrimp, Mad House Salad, Black Truffle Sea Scallops, and Black Grouper. All were delicious along with a very good wine recommended by our waiter. Dessert consisted of Creme Brulee and a Dark Chocolate concoction both to die for. We will definitely return on our next trip in the fall.

My husband and I ate there on July 5. It is located right on the beach, however, the beach is not visible as it is blocked by a sand dune. In order to see the sunset, we had to walk outside as many others did. We ordered a delicious fois gras which was served over pears. My husband ordered a Caesar salad which was fair and I had the Mad Salad which was excellent. The filet mignon served with bernaise sauce was good but not spectacular. It was $35 and I much prefer Ruth's Chris for the same price. My 3 stuffed (a little too much breading and not enough crab) shrimp was average with a little too much citrus sauce for my taste. I thought $34 was pricey for 3 shrimp. The service was excellent. The total bill was $168 which included a bottle of wine.

My husband and I had a 6:00 reservation, but the sky was about to open up at 5:30 and we didn't want to get soaked so we went early. They seated us early and we ordered our bottle of wine. They were going to wait on us early too, but we said we would just enjoy our wine until they opened at 6:00. Very nice staff. The staff was very, very attentive but didn't hover. They would glance from a distance and if you needed anything they were right on it. The restaurant is small so I would recommend a reservation. We tried everything from the soup, salad, entre and even the dessert and a bottle of wine and still made it out of there for under $200. We haven't had food that good since Paris. Highly recommend it!
