For several years Amy's has been our family's first stop on the island. This year we were very disappointed both times we ate there. Prior to this year we would have said that Amy's was our favorite lunch/breakfast spot on the island. Not so much any more...Some of their "comfort" foods are now more like the standard fare at any restaurant. The fries used to be homemade (like my mom and grandmother made) from fresh potatoes, but are now the frozen variety. The key lime pie which was one of the best on the island was disappointing - so much so that my family of 4 didn't even finish one piece. I hate to see this decline, and hope that maybe the growth of their business has merely created some growing pains that will be improved upon by our next trip.
This place is just fine. Have been for breakfast several times, several months apart, and the problems do not seem to change.
Food is bland, and once or twice I have received undercooked potatoes. Granted, I did not send them back, so I cannot comment on how accommodating the restaurant is in that regard, but it makes me nervous that despite the menu saying that they can't make an exceptions or special orders they can't seem to cook through a potato. Also, coffee is bland and boring.
Finally, the worst part, was an overzealous waitress who stood by our table for several minutes egging on a small child in a high, loud voice. I was trying to have a conversation with my table, but it was impossible to speak over this woman without shouting. Just when I thought it was over, she shouted past our table to another to confirm their order. I'm not expecting white-glove service but I do expect a pleasant morning experience.
Royally treated on our first visit being referred to as "The Queen's people" for the benefit of one of the waitresses who is originally from England. Amy's is located right at the end of periwinkle in a pleasant setting. It is brightly decorrated inside with a chicken theme around the walls and the staff were all very friendly.
The breakfasts are pretty good with plenty of choices though I don't think their pancakes are as good as those at the lighthouse cafe. The sausage patties were very nice and coffee as always in the US was limitless.
Prices are in keeping with all other similar establisments.
Only one fault, on our second visit the eggs were not as hot as they should have been.I would have sent them back but we were pushed for time. I noticed another reviewer saying something on similar lines so Amy, if you are listening, take note chuck.
Great staff, great service, wonderful food. Very popular so sometimes a wait but there are shops to browse and a coffee
pot outside to start with.
