We picked up sandwiches at East End Deli on Monday, October 6, 2008. The food was delicious and we would definitely recommend. There is no seating inside so be prepared to eat outside or take back to your room.

The curry chicken salad is to die for!! Best chicken salad I have ever had!!!
This is one of those places where, if you come to Sanibel often, you envy the family that owns and runs the place because it is just the thing you'd like to have yourself.....a family affair, with reasonable hours, friendly service, and good food that makes people happy. On a typical weeks visit to Sanibel, we will come to the East End at least twice and always walk away happy. This is not a sit down type of deli, except for the benches that line the front porch, where we have found ourselves happily munching on many a visit. This is however a great place for take out, either for breakfast on the go, lunch on the beach, or a take home dinner (prepared nightly, usually one specific special) after a long day in the sun. For breakfast, my favorite is the "up and at em" sandwich with eggs, cheese, and sausage or bacon.....I like mine best in a wrap, but you can get it on a croissant, bagel or toast if you like. All of the wraps and sandwiches that I've tried have been top notch, the salads and sides noticeably homemade and flavorful. For us though, the family favorites have been the massive Chili Dog (better grab a knife and fork), the Island Wrap with black beans and rice, tomatoes, peppers, guacamole, etc., and the Lunch Box for the kids...better than any McMini Meal you'll find at that clown joint. Being that the owners have transplanted themselves on Sanibel from England, there are subtle touches from home such as the Scotch Eggs, those baseball sized hard boiled eggs wrapped in sausage, rolled in bread crumbs and fried........classic pub food and a must have for me on every visit to the East End Deli.....yes, even had one for breakfast.
East End Deli is owned by a couple who originally had a deli in England and moved for a change of scenery. Everyone is friendly! If you want a good fast filling breakfast to go order the "Up and at Em" on a croissant! If you stop by at lunch the wraps and sandwiches are wonderful but if your in the the mood for something different they are famous for their beans and rice.
I also enjoyed their huge hot dog i.e. the "Lucky Dog" but let me warn you, you better be hungry! The key lime pie is the best on the island! If you look on the wall you will see the awards they have received for their outstanding food. Definitely this place needs to be on your list!
East End Deli is wonderful! The selection of wraps, sandwiches, etc. is interesting & delicious. The people who work there are friendly, patient, and helpful. We were looking for a late lunch, hoping to get into the Lighthouse Cafe across the street, but the 45 minute wait there cuased us to go across the street to the East End Deli -- we were glad we made the choice! The breakfast burritos were great, as was the lunch wrap & salad that we had on another day. I just wish they had a little table out front so we could have eaten our food right there.
