This place has a HUGE menu. It's like a diner on steroids. There were tons of kids there, and it seems to be the place to go for families. The food was good, not great.

My wife and I travel to Sanibel frequently and always stop in to the Hungry Heron. We had lunch there July 4th. The restaurant wasn't very crowded at 12:00 (probably most folks at the beaches) so we were seated immediately. We placed our order and within 5 minutes the food arrived (including a takeout order for a late day snack). The food was wonderful - fresh shrimp salad, delicious clam strips, large order of fried oysters. We love this place! The only thing I felt was a little "off" was the extra $3.00/order charged for substituting sweet potato fries for regular fries. They're really good, but $3.00 for four fries was a bit much. All-in-all, we'll keep coming back to the Hungry Heron

We could not have ask for a better place to bring our family, huge menu and friendly service, the waitstaff was very up beat and very willing to work with us while we took our time looking over the menu. This place is very busy , and has a great island feel to it! Dont pass this place up, we ate there every night we were there on Sanibel!!

The restaurant is not exactly clean. It's your typical run down restaurant that could use new carpeting (we think that's what the smell was coming from) and a good overall cleaning. The service was just okay. It took the waitress 10 minutes to initially come to our table and she was slow as molasses. The food was decent, and a bit pricey. If you ordered a sandwich you had to pay extra for french fries. The meal didn't come with the sides. We had a shrimp appetizer, two sandwiches with fries and one kids meal and 4 beers and the meal was $70.00. Just a tad pricey for lunch. The overall experience was okay.
