We just got back from having dinner at Hungry Heron. It was just my husband and I, there were 2 tables of people that were seated when we arrived and 2 more tables were seated while we were there. We have eaten here numerous times, usually in the summer with our kids when the restaurant is packed with families. The food was okay, a bit overpriced. In general the Hungry Heron has gotten run down over the years and could use some refreshning,

Food is great, service is horrible. The waitress threw our food away instead of boxing it up. She never brought a second helping of fish even though it was all you can eat. I will not return here to eat, for the prices I would expect better service. Instead of eating here you should cross the causeway for $6.00 and go into Fort Myers.

Worn out, dirty and seedy, unfortunately. Tasteless underdone fish sandwiches. Lackluser atmosphere and service. I am a pretty tolerant traveler of most anything I encounter, but this was a low point during the visit to Sanibel. We are trying to forget it. Ignore the popularity ratings, they should be held very suspect.

I should have come to trip advisor first because I see reactions similar to mine below. We came here because we have kids and it was recommended as a great restaurant for kids in the guidebook we had toted along with us. I'm not sure why, because it has Nick and Disney channel on mute on the TV? The menu has over 200 items on it -- way too many to make a good choice. There were way too many choices for the kids, any parent knows to not give a kid that many choices. Of the four of us, three of us chose wrong. The kid who chose pizza got a humongous pizza fit for all four except for the grease on top of it. My spouse got scallops and shrimp, but they forgot the shrimp and had to bring it separate. I got a stir fry vegetable, shrimp and pasta dish that tasted awful. My bad for picking it. The kid who ordered the jerk crab cake did pick a winner -- good thing her appetite is never big so we could all share it. Also, as noted, it was dingy and on the August night we went, the a/c was broke.
