“Very good, reasonable”

We are not familiar with Sanibel Island and the first night we were there, we didn't feel like driving far, like to Captiva or Ft Myers. Most places we passed appeared closed or empty and then we came upon DOC Ford's. The parking lot was full and it looked lively but not jamed. We were seated almost as soon as we got there and were waited on immediately. We started out with the raw oysters and they were fresh, sweet and delicious. I ordered a cheeseburger prepared rare, expecting medium as most places do. What a nice surprise to get a quality, rare hamburger! I selected cole slaw as my side and it was a winner. It is fresh and homemade. The other dinners ordered were fish and chicken entrees and everything ordered was very good. We had a couple of drinks and a relaxing dinner. We had an appetizer (the doz. oysters), 6 rum drinks, two main entrees, a cheeseburger platter and 3 desserts to go. Our bill was Iess than $110.00. I think that is very reasonable, especially for the quality of food. I don't know if any of the locals were dining there but it appeared many the customers were familiar to wait staff and other patrons so they must have been repeat customers. The dress was casual and the diners ranged from couples to entire families of several generations. We liked it so much we went back for a late lunch our last full day on Sanibel. Food was still good as was wait staff.

“What happened to this place?!”

I've ordered out from here in the past and it was decent, but this last time was bad. The burger I ordered medium was served well-done with tons of pepper. I couldn't taste the burger due to so much pepper. This is usually done to cover up the taste of cheap meat... or bad meat... Yikes!! The fries tasted like they were freezer burnt and were tossed on top of my burger in the to-go box so that when I got around to eating the fries took the cheese off of my burger. All this for 11 bucks. I would've been more pleased with a frozen burger from 7-11!

enjoyed the rum drinks and the appetizer - I would go back for that. The featured entree was not so good.

“An instant favorite”

I am very surprised to read some of the negative reviews here. We ate here three times in three days in the first week of July, 2008. The reason we returned so frequently was that we enjoyed it so much. Normally when we visit a new place we like to try many different places, so it was quite unusual for us to return a 2nd time, let alone a 3rd. We are a family of four (two kids under 12) and each of us had something quite good each time we went. The first time we went it was mainly because it was nearby where we were staying and it sounded interesting. We were not disappointed. I had the Grilled Salmon entree salad and it is one of the few times I recall saying, "wow" when I first ate something. We liked it so much that we stopped in the next day for lunch in the middle of a bike ride to and through the Ding Darling wildlife center. It made a very long, hot ride much more enjoyable. Then, on our last day, when deciding where to go for supper, we decided that we liked it so much that we would return there. Highly enjoyable, and now I can proudly sport my Doc Ford's Sanibel T shirt. You could call Doc Ford's a "sports bar" - they do have a bar and there are sports on the TVs - but it's more of a casual, family place with an upscale menu.

“Life is Good”

DOC Ford's

All is Good - I hate being on vacation and having to pay high prices for mediocre food. Well - Doc Ford's is not like that! The food is excellent, the prices are good, they don't rush you, the kids meals are snazzy. We come here every time we are on Sanibel. Sometimes more than once! The Yucatan Shrimp are awesome! Check out the Randy Wayne Wright fiction - great reads while on vacation.
