“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Had the majitos before dinner. Very good. I had mahi-mahi that was cooked perfectly. Everything was wonderful: the food, the service, the drinks, the presentation. Would love to go back.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We love Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grille!! We've eaten here numerous times over the years, and everything we've ordered has been fantastic. I especially LOVE the Yucatan Shrimp!! The rum drinks are wonderful, the staff is always attentive, friendly, personable. Can't wait to get back to Doc Ford's :)

“Good food, great service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

After a day on the beach at our condo, we headed to Doc Fords. Second time for me, fourth time for my friend. Had a couple of beers and the the Lime Panko Crusted fish sandwich. Fabulous! Fish was done, moist and flavorful, on a whole wheat roll with coleslaw and light sauce. Didn't want the roll but asked for more of the spicy remoulade and it was excellent. Best of all was our server, Sean. He's lived on Sanibel almost continually since he was 11 and made us feel welcome in his town, talked to us about his college and career plans and was extremely attentive (is at the table moments after you finish your beer to see if you need another!). Great dinner and great atmosphere.

“Great food, terrible customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Oh, Doc Ford's.....I really do love your food, shame that we found a push pin in the shrimp and grits! Spoke with the manager, she got us a new plate of food, offered us drinks (we already had) and then promised to take the dish off of our bill.
The waitress, who had been hanging out at the bar with a customer while all of this was going on, didn't really seem to be bothered, brought us the check (with the dish still on there) and then rolled her eyes and sighed when we told her the manager said the dish would be comped. When she brought the bill back, a line item had been added FOREIGN OBJECT, with the cost of the dish deducted. Sort of makes me think this is not the time something weird/gross was found in their food. Would have been nice to have free drink or dessert for the ordeal.

“Way Better Than Expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

I love Randy Wayne White’s Doc Ford books so when we stayed over on Sanibel Island I just HAD to go. I figured it would be an overpriced sports bar type restaurant, but wanted to go anyway. Boy were we all surprised. The staff was friendly and the food was fabulous. We had gotten up early to catch the sunrise and then played on the beach all day, so the child in our group was so tired she fell asleep the minute we sat down. The staff was kind enough to get us another chair so we could lay her down instead of just leaning against her mother.

We shared the Doc’s Beach Bread and Caribbean Jerk Tostados as appetizers, both of which were fabulous. The adults in our party had a couple Banana Leaf Snappers, a Grouper Sandwich, and a Tropical Salad. We ordered our sleeping child a bowl of Clam Chowder to go since we knew she would be hungry when she woke up. They even threw in a bunch of oyster crackers when we told them our child loved to put them in her soup. All of the food was fabulous and the reheated clam chowder with oyster crackers was a huge hit when our child woke up about an hour after we got home.

My only negative with the restaurant on Sanibel Island is that it isn’t on the water, so you don’t have an amazing view. BUT, the quality of the food makes up for the lack of a water front view. This is a place I will definitely go back t the next time we vacation on Sanibel Island.
