We live where a restaurant has great granola pancakes, so when we noticed they were on the menu of the Lighthouse Cafe, which bills itself as having The World's Best Breakfast, we ordered them and eggs over medium.
I don't like real sweet things with eggs, so I usually eat the first part of pancakes without syrup while I eat the eggs. I then put syrup on the remaining pancakes as a sort of "dessert". I therefore feel I truly know the taste of pancakes. These were the only bad pancakes I have ever had! Previously, I had thought pancakes could not be ruined.
Normally pancake batter is at least a little sweet. These pancakes were not. Nor did they have much flavor. Both my wife and I were surprised and disappointed by the lack of flavor of the pancakes. Even with syrup they still were not good.
Since I hadn't wanted to ruin them for my wife, and she didn't mention she also disliked them until we were almost through, I hadn't mentioned the problem to our server, which I should have done. So, I decided to mention it to the woman at the cash register by asking her if there could have been a problem with the way they were made that day.
She was uncaring and argumentative and said there had been no problem that day. She also disagreed with me, saying, "The granola has honey, so it has to be sweet," and "Nobody else has ever complained." The pancakes were not sweet nor was their flavor good.
She should have apologized and said she would look into it.
We come to Sanibel for 2-3 weeks every year, but we won't be back to the Lighthouse Cafe. However, they seem to have a good business, so I guess they won't care whether or not we eat there.
