Spent four days on Captiva with Under_Girl and in my pre-trip notes I had scribbled "Matzaluna - good pizza. Per: Granny's friend Pat."

So what did I order on my ill-advised trip to Matzaluna? The Crab Bisque followed by a Chicken Parmesan of course.

The bisque was an orange, I think garlicy, buttery mixture. It had the consistency of nacho cheese and it contained slivers of mystery meat that presumably were crab. I tasted strong elements of salt. We dipped the bread in it. The bread was fresh, and it kinda worked on some level of fondu.

The Chicken Parm was fairly tasteless, hence less offensive than the bisque. My pasta was sitting in water.

We loved our visit to Matzaluna. Nice selection of food, and all priced well....especially the kid's meals. Bread was excellent, as was the spaghetti/meatballs (kids) and the penne pomodoro pasta meal. Ambiance is great - nicely decorated, very friendly and helpful servers. Great meal!

We were staying on Captiva and customarily ordered our pizza from the now gone Mama Rosa's. So, upon advice of another vacationer, we ordered from Matzaluna.

We ordered a pizza per person and that was the right portion size. They were each excellent and though my favorite pizza had a lot of garlic, the heavy garlic turned off some of our group. The pepperoni and sausage pizza was excellent. The pizzas are woodfired and the crust is crewy and thin. We had to heat our pizzas up in the oven when we got back to Captiva because the drive took 20 minutes.

When we arrived, we were told our to-go order was waiting at the bar. The bar tender was super helpful.

The dining room and bar area wasn't full, but everyone in the building seemed to be having a great time.

This was definately one of hte most economical dinners on the island.

My husband and I were looking for a nice casual restaurant that had good food but reasonable on the price. This was exactly the place to go! My husband had Chicken Parm. while I had a Margarita pizza. It was great!
