“A serviceable meal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

... that's what my hubby called it after having a perfectly average dinner here. The dining room, as others have mentioned, is inviting and fun, with star lights hanging from the ceiling and accents of ocean blue. Our server was pleasant. The pretty aqua napkins were synthetic and kept slipping off our laps, forcing us to get the server to replace them.

The food was alright. I ordered the shrimp scampi over pasta and what arrived wasn't an actual shrimp scampi. It had other flavors and non-scampi ingredients in it, but it was OK ... that is, if you thought of it as some kind of shrimp dish you might get in a good cafeteria. My hubby ordered a grouper puttanesca special that he describes as non-descript. My rum punch-type cocktail looked like soda pop but was decent, albeit a little sweet even for a rum punch.

We won't be back here and I'm regretting haven forgotten to bring the discount coupon.

“Very Cool Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

This is a very cool restaurant at the Holiday Inn on Sanibel Island. The food is great and the atmosphere is interesting. There is an upside down tree in the middle of the restaurant. Of course it isn't real, but it's cool. There are illuminated stars hanging around the ceiling of the restaurant. The place glows. Its neat! My husband and daughter loved the shark bites appetizer and I loved the shrimp cocktail. The dinner rolls were to die for! We liked it so much we went back a few days later. If you get the chance walk around the grounds of the Holiday Inn. It's right on the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful. Prettier than the resort we were staying in. Overall, great place to eat.

“Always a thrill.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

The food was amazing. And we love the tiki bar! We finally decided to eat at the resturaunt one night and was very pleased. We would like to give a special thank you to Wes. We've seen him down at the tiki on his golf cart and he's always so pleasant. He always puts a smile on our faces. So we were thrilled to see him inside the resturaunt. He's always putting in so much work! We love the starfish and Wes!!

“Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013 via mobile

We have been coming to Sanibel for over 25 years. We have seen a steady decline in the restaurants over the last 10 years.

Since there was no compelling favorite to provide our dining business, we decided to try the Starfish Grille. We are so glad we did. Everyone in our party loved their food.

For appetizers, we had seared scallops in a tarragon butter sauce and bruschetta with wild mushrooms and goat cheese. Both were outstanding! I was especially impressed with the bruschetta. The mixture of the goat cheese and balsamic vinegar really combined to create an amazing sauce for the mushrooms on the Bruschetta.

The entrees were excellent. My wife had a Filet Mignon which was perfectly cooked and exceedingly tender. I had the flash fried grouper in a caper sage butter sauce.

In addition, we loved the atmosphere. It is a trendy and whimsical oasis in the midst of the typical unimaginative Sanibel restaurant decors. The Starfish Grille would have been right at home on South Beach in Miami. We really appreciated the tree in the middle of the restaurant with glowing paper star lanterns. Also, the bar was set up to have a blue lighting under the bar. This is the type of bar that you could spend hours enjoying tropical and trendy concoctions

The only drawback of the night was that for our party of 7, two of our dinners, inexplicably, didn't arrive with the rest of the entrees. There seemed to be some confusion on the part of our waitresses about this and it took about 10 minutes before it was resolved. While this may have made some people irate, we were all enjoying each others company so it ended up only a small nuisance. It more than made up for the wait when we tasted the quality of our dinner. The other couple with us vouched for the fact that this was an unusual occurrence.

I wish more people knew about this restaurant. I felt like I have found a hidden gem that is yet to be discovered by many Sanibel travelers.

Can't wait to come back
