“first time but not the last time !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

this was our first time here but by far will not be the last peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, nothing fancy and steps from the beach everyone here is wonderful, friendly and they make you feel like your at home. before we left we booked for next year ! the only negative I would have to say is the a/c noise but they are in the process of updating them all with new units we look forward to our visit next year !! Thank you to all who made us feel welcome !

Room Tip: all cottages are excellent and have just about everything you need in them !

We stayed with our Golden Retriever Beau in Unit 1 for 5 days. We were a stone-throw to the Gulf. Our unit was clean with up-to-date appliances (except for the AC which was pretty loud and is being replaced this summer) and a perfect size for our large dog. The beach is great for shelling. The sunset sky-splash is awesome. Restaurants are nearby and very dog-friendly. We had some windy weather which presented us and Beau with wave-hopping and limited swimming. We were in Sanibel last year and smoother waters had us swimming much of every day. We have booked a week at Beachview next May; hoping for less wind, but no matter what, we recommend this spot to dog and beach lovers.

Room Tip: We picked a unit with direct (across the sand) Gulf access...some for next year. A bit pricey, but w...

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. The service at the front desk was exceptional. Lisa gave us great tips for dining. Relaxed in the pool one afternoon. Water was pleasant. Great beach access. Loved the location.

Have stayed at Beachview several times and just love it there. Already booked for next year but sure would appreciate a new bed(s). Those in unit seem to be getting old as is the couch. Rusted lampshade needs to be replaced too. However, so many positives...location, pool, dog friendly, Lisa, Bob, Dilya, Johnny, wi-fi, seeing some of the same folks each year. It has become a home away from home.

Beachview Cottages is so relaxing and quiet. There is nothing going on after 8pm. There are bikes to rent and the staff is very friendly. The local grocery store has everything you need. The people are pleasant and seem to really enjoy themselves. We stopped at Publix on the way in from Fort Myers but were pleasantly surprised at the wine collection from Bailey's. I plan on coming back here very soon and staying longer. Perfect trip.

I stayed at the Beachview Cottages with a group of fellow doxie lovers who met on Facebook. We all had brought our dogs with us and felt very welcomed. The cottages are old but were very clean. The pet friendly units are completely tiled which was great with dogs! Had a great time!

Just back from a long weekend solo getaway at Beachview, with a rather mixed reaction.
The good:

Location-the cottages are not only on the quiet end of Sanibel, the complex is laid out so everything faces that wonderful beach. I stayed in unit #18, which is a second floor in a triplex. Even located closest to the office/road, I could see the ocean from the balcony which was nice.

Soundproofing-although all the units in my building were booked I didn't hear much if any ambient noise. Guess that '50s construction is a blessing for this! Appreciated that very much, it's a pet peeve having to hear other people going about their business when one is trying to sleep.

Cleanliness-the unit was spotless and the towel delivery (no daily housekeeping but they bring fresh towels if you leave dirties outside the door) was prompt and efficient.

Equipment-#18 is a fully equipped apartment and the kitchen had nice new appliances, a good basic set of dishes/silverware and dishwashing liquid with a sponge, a nice touch.

Management-Beachview is a pet (dog) friendly resort, and although I don't own one and am not a dog lover, whatever they are doing really works! Many/most of the other guests had their dogs with them, but there was absolutely no barking at night and no visible animal waste left. Every person kept his/her pet leashed and it was truly no different than staying at a place without pets allowed. Kudos to both the management and the guests for really keeping things balanced nicely on this.

WiFi Access-easily accessible, strong signal. A 21st century perk in an old school resort, much appreciated.

The not so nice though, probably will preclude me returning:

Air conditioning-this was the biggest negative for me. While I realize these are old Florida cottages, the AC consisted of a unit mounted directly above the bed in the bedroom area. I could tell it wasn't new and although it cooled the apartment down quickly and reliably it was SO LOUD!! The first night I tried leaving it on, and slept horribly with the racket of the unit going all night. After that I turned it off to sleep. However, any later in the season that wouldn't have been practical at all. Aside from the noise, it cannot be energy efficient having old unit air conditioners as the only way to cool the cottages. Talk about wasting resources and money!

Linens-man, those were some really sad towels and sheets. While again, I understand this is an old school, keep-it-simple resort, there isn't any excuse to supply towels that were uniformly cheap to begin with and clearly ancient. Some had holes in them(!). The bed linens, again were clean but paper thin and were cheapies that had been used and washed thousands of times. Pillows, same story. Without expecting luxury linens, basic clean white towels and washcloths and bedding aren't prohibitively expensive and for the price charged at Beachview, should be expected.

General wear/tear--the bathroom, while very clean, featured a toilet handle that had to be held down to flush. Seems housekeeping would notice and report this, and it would be simple to fix.
Rusted covers for the AC power cables-again, an easy fix to spray some Rustoleum on them as they were already painted over. The couch in the LR area was really grungy looking, as were the seats of the DR chairs. I put a sheet over the couch to sit on; that thing looked like it might have been there for as long as the Beachview!

Summary-Beachview is a nice resort but for what one pays they really need to do some upgrading of the facility. Eventually I would hope they will invest in more modern (and energy efficient) small central AC units as some other cottage resorts on the island have. And they definitely need to buy fresh towels and bed linens as well as updated furniture in the units. Once those changes are done this really would be a perfect getaway combination of retro and modern.
