“A beautiful haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

I have stayed at Unit #21 four times now and every year something new is done to enhance the beauty and comfort of this lovely two bedroom condo. Every thing you need is provided-games, beach towels, cart, chairs, all kitchen utensils, bath towels, etc. It is on the second floor next to the pool/office location, no elevator however. For those who enjoy nature and a breath of fresh air, I highly recommend Unit #21 at Sea Shells of Sanibel.

Room Tip: Unit #21 is superb!

. We loved it! We stayed in unit 30. Seashells of Sanibel is very well kept, clean, quiet and has all the amenities you need for a wonderful beach vacation. The unit had beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys, beach towels. The bedrooms are comfortable and well appointed and felt like home away from home! The location is great easy to get to Captiva and anywhere else on the island. The grounds are always beautiful and maintained. There really wasn't anything we didn't like! We will be back again and again!!

Sea Shells is a lovely, quiet little complex. We have stayed here five times. It's a good value, especially in the off season.
One important thing to know is that all the units are individually owned. The upgrades and amenities can vary a LOT, depending on which unit you select. Some units are definitely tired and need upgrading. When choosing your unit, be careful to examine the photos and the descriptions. Also, the higher the unit number, the further your walk to the beach will be. Look at the map before you book.
We stayed in Unit 1, which has been recently remodeled and is absolutely beautiful. Granite countertops, tall maple kitchen cabinets, stainless applianced, hurricane windows, and great bathrooms. This unit is closest to to the beach, which is a short walk to the beach access path.
The pool is very nice, there is on-site laundry, and there are communal gas grills.
Overall, if you want a nice place to stay that is budget friendly, this is it!

Room Tip: Do your homework before you book a unit here.

We stayed 3 nights in Unit 17 (one of the few spots on Sanibel that didn't require a week stay...very appreciative of Mark, the out of state owner, who also gave us excellent tips and pointers for our stay!). The unit had a nice layout (a bit dated, but oh well...we were not in the unit much anyway). The price for the unit was quite reasonable, especially when split between two couples for the 2 bedroom/2 bath. The location was ideal. The walk to the beach was short, and it s a lovely beach with nice shells. Quiet, too. Just remember, Florida has LOTS of little lizards. Be ready to see a bunch:)

Room Tip: Unit 17 is about in the middle of the small complex, somewhat close to the pool.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

Just returned from a 5 night stay in Unit #5 at Sea Shells. We booked through the owner on Home Away, but it seems you can also book through Sea Shells directly. I agree with all the other positive comments others have listed. This development is in a very nice area and while not beach front, it is across the street (West Gulf Drive - very low traffic street) and about 3 driveways up to get to the beach access. It is a short walk, but I believe this is the exchange for the reasonable rates they charge. They have on site bike rentals which we used one day ($10 for 4 hrs) and they offer everything from daily to weekly rates as well. This was very convenient. The island has awesome bike paths and we traveled all the way to the Lighthouse and back (4.1 miles each way), and it was a very nice trip.

The unit does come with the 'starter pack' that others mentioned, which was nice. Some rental units you tend to find a lot of items left from previous renters like aluminum foil, spices, etc. This was not the case here, so primarily what you are told is the starter kit is about what you should expect to find when you arrive. Unit is nicely stocked with all the appliance, cookware, etc to make your stay very enjoyable. Also, all bedding and towels are included. Unit #5 has a washer/dryer inside master bedroom and available for use.

Each unit appears to have a 'beach stroller' which was SO helpful to load the chairs/cooler/backpacks into and wheel to the beach. Not sure about every unit, but this one had 6 beach chairs, a cooler, beach umbrella, beach toys and also a stroller and portable playpen if you have children.

We loved it, and would recommend this facility to others.

HINT: The lower the unit number is, the closer to the street (and beach) you are. Higher unit numbers will require a walk through the parking lot before you head to the beach. Not a big deal, but good to know.

HINT 2: We did our shopping at Publix in Ft. Myers before coming over the bridge. There are a couple of grocery stores on the island, but you will pay 'island' prices for shopping there. If you want to save a few dollars, make your list in advance and pick up your food before paying that $6 toll onto Sanibel.

Room Tip: Highly recommend renting Unit#5. Nicely decorated and very comfortable.

Sea Shells of Sanibel was extremely clean, close to the beach, quiet and had great amenities. Each unit had a place to sit quietly outsde, most in a screened lanai. Our unit had a shared laundry between two units. The 'starter kit' included everything you needed for a week's visit, giving you plenty of time to restock for a longer visit. BBQ grills were really good.
Sea Shells hit all my 'must have' lists and most of my 'wanna have' lists.
Don't miss The Sand Bar Restaurant just a short walk away from the property. Man it was good!

We stayed in unit 22 for 7 days from Nov 10 to 17. It was a very clean nicely furnished room. This building is right next to the office, which makes it convenient to use the laundry and pool, (its heated). The walk to the beach is not real far but you may want to consider a wagon or cart to move stuff to the beach if you have a need for chairs, toys for kids, coolers and so on. This place is very centrally located on the island I would say about mid point to all island attraction and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and ready to help with any of our needs. For $ value this is the best you could find on this island.

Room Tip: If you have little kids or are an older couple ask for lower numbered rooms which are closer to the...
