“Hawaiian feeling on Sanibel Island!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Altough we arrived pretty late in the evening the owners of the Kona Kai Motel gave us a warm welcome and offered us a very pretty room for one night.
The atmosphere is really beautiful, the rooms are clean and we loved the hawaiian style on the whole area. If you like to refresh yourself the motel has a great pool as well as different seating areas (with sunroof) to enjoy a drink or also grill a yummie steack on the grill. At the same road different little restaurants and a 7eleven are located where you can buy some stuff. We can really recommend this beautiful motel on Sanibel Island!

Being our first time visiting Sanibel island, we were very impressed with the atmosphere, the beaches the restaurants and the laid back atmosphere here. It is refreshing to know that the gulf coast of Florida is not entirely plastered over with high-rises.
We stayed here for three days during the high-season of early March. The grounds - dotted with walkways and tropical plants and well-tended, was a welcome sight. The pool and sitting/grilling area were both welcoming.
The only slight downside in our opinion was the room, which was at best of average standard and could definitely use an update/renovation (carpets, bed, bathroom). We had a simple room with a twin bed so perhaps this was not representative. Admittedly, this is one of the better values on a very popular island, but even taking that into account, the room was a disappointment.
I Could nevertheless recommend the Kona Kai for a few days.

My girlfriend and I were on the tail end of our journey around the coasts of Florida-from West Palm-down to the keys-on up the gulf side where we landed at Kona Kai/Sannibel (our last night). If only we had budgetted more time for Sannibel and the Kona Kai Motel. We were treated like old friends, from the moment we called (days before-to inquire about pricing and availibility) which continued troughout our entire experience there. The room was very tidy, clean and comfortable. The courtyard was beautiful and made for some spectacular photos. The pool was the cleanest we encountered. NEXT time we will be staying longer and will be taking full advantage of the pool and beautiful bbq area. Thanks so much Brenda and Lenny.
Sincerely-
Keith and Kristin from Wisconsin

Our vacation at the Kona Kai has sadly just ended but we will cherish our memories for a long long time. We visited with our two teenagers and stayed in one of the accommodations called a suite. We had a bedroom with 2 queen beds, a living room, and a kitchen. We found our suite to be clean, well equipped, and just what we were looking for when we planned our Spring Break vacation. The grounds there are so beautiful and we quickly fell under Brenda and Lenny's Aloha spirit. The Kona Kai has a distinctly Hawaiian feel and we enjoyed every minute we spent there.

This lovely motel is a welcoming respite on the Island of Sanibel. The Hawaiian tropical theme, lovely lush gardens, perfect pool & bbq area, and graciousness of the hosts Lynny & Brenda made my stay relaxing and memorable. The rooms are simple, clean, and welcoming. i'll be back!

We had a great time on our first visit to Kona Kai. We stayed in a suite, which was very room for the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 child). The grounds are beautiful. Even though it is on the main road, we could not hear road noise in our rooms or on the porch. The rooms are set back quite a bit from the road. The pool was large and clean. There are only 12 units, so we found ourselves with the pool entirely to ourselves on most days. The suite was very clean, we did not have any issues. I would like it if there was a way to recycle. You do need to be prepared that no one comes in to the unit to clean or change linens. You can ask for clean towels and tp, and they are happy to provide you with supplies. The suites have a full size fridge, sink and microwave with room to sit and eat either inside or out. The small table outside the room overlooks the landscaping and is very pleasant to sit and have your coffee outside. They have swim towels to borrow. Bikes can be rented from Billy's across the street. You can walk/bike to the local grocery store (5 minutes), 7-11 is next door, a nice bookshop next door, ice cream across the street. There are a number of shops and restaurants within an easy bike ride. Two or three beaches are within a medium bike ride. The owners were friendly and someone was always around. We would stay there again, highly recommend.
