“Affordable, peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2010

I would definetly recommend this Inn as a great place to stay. It is affordable, and has all of the things that we needed to be comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and it is a close walk to the beach. The owner is very accommodating, providing things that we didn't bring as travelers, beach chairs, beach towels, hairdryer, bicycles, and more. It is located in a quiet little neighborhood. It is clean and decorated nicely. The best thing is the price, and the fact that we had a nice kitchen to prepare our meals in. I will definetly stay here for may years to come.

Location of Palm View is very good, but not on the water. Thus, you save money and can walk to beach access in about 5 minutes. Beater bikes are provided at no cost, so you can use the bike trails starting right across the street. Also provided at no cost: 2 beach chairs and umbrellas. Efficiency unit (Captain Ed's) had a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living/sitting area, and a comfortable king bed. Bathroom is dated but serviceable with 60's pastel ceramic fixtures. There is a washer/dryer available for free use after 5 PM.

Downsides: This efficiency unit adjoins one other unit, and the walls are thin. We and the neighbors coexisted by keeping our voices and TV volumes low, but others might not have such nice neighbors. Water pressure is also greatly affected between the units, so we agreed on a shower schedule so the other folks or we would not suffer through a nearly-dry shower.

All in all, a very nice place to stay, and a bargain when compared to going rates at nearby motels and condo rentals.

Had a great time! Didn't arrive on island until 5:30 pm. Found the Palmview on Donax Street. Office already closed, but envelope taped to door welcoming us, with key inside. Great place for the price (we paid $99/night). All the units are named and we stayed in the Creole Garden. Nice living area, with half wall separating the sleeping and kitchen areas. King-sized bed, that was good news! Private bath with tub/shower. Had a full-sized frig, small 4-burner stove w/oven, microwave, blender, coffeemaker, everything you would need. Would definitely stay here again! Had great shelling, thanks to Hurricane Ida stirring up the Gulf of Mexico.

My husband and I just got back from staying a whole week at the Palm View Inn on Sanibel Island, FL. We stayed in the Hideaway cottage. It felt like home, but with a gentle, tasteful tropical feel. The full kitchen was great, a real money saver. The inn has free washer and dryer for guests, a thoughtful amenity. The owner was very nice, she does most things around the premises herself, including housekeeping after guests leave! The collection of cottages and grounds are nicely kept and attractive. We just had a great stay. And the price in the off-season makes it possible for us to stay there again hopefully in the near future. The Palm View has a great location off the beaten path a bit, very quiet, but still close to shopping and restaurants, and it's proximity to the beach was fantastic! We hope to stay there again in a couple of years.

My husband and I followed a thread on one of the sites we use to help us choose places to stay and tried this little gem of place. Just a short walk to the beach (beach chairs & towels supplied) and great bike rides (bikes supplied) around the island. It was nice to have the kitchen, although they do need to update their kitchen fry pans and they could use some spices, etc - but knowing that the next time I'll remember to bring some. Quiet, clean and comfortable! Thanks Palm View, we have a great time.

My wife and I stayed in the Creole Garden Suite for a weekend at the end of May. We loved our suite. Some of the rooms are stuck in the 1960's; but that was part of the charm. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a short stay. Sure, a small pool would have been nice, but with the beach just an 8 minute walk away we didn't really miss a pool for our short stay(if you use the free on site bikes it's just 2 minutes away).
The grounds could use some maintenance and attention. The complimentary beach chairs and umbrella were great to have, although our set should be retired. For those driving to the PalmView; bring an umbrella screw with you from home to secure it on the beach which occasionally can get quite breezy. Our umbrella was "launched" a couple of times.
We would stay at the PalmView again for a short stay visit to Sanibel.

  • Liked — inside the suite, close to beach, bikes and beach gear on site, it's ON SANIBEL!
  • Disliked — grounds, no pool

My husband, two teenagers, and adult daughter spent 5 nights in mid-March 2008 at the Palm Retreat. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law had the Pirate's Cove just across from us. Our experience was positive...we had everything we needed, including a spacious kitchen , which is a plus with 7 people eating together. The units are cheerfully decorated and we found the check-in flexible and straightforward. It's a perfect spot for those not requiring plush accommodations or a pool environment. For our part, we like the ability to be "at home away from home" and like not having the intrusiveness of daily housekeeping visits. For the independent, self-directed type of traveler, the arrangements at Palmview are perfect, not to mention a very nice, quiet location close to the beach. We didn't miss the beachfron prices, either!

  • Liked — Small, quiet establishment with all amenities we required in a good location
  • Disliked — nothing
