“A tropical island getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

My friend and I wanted to enjoy a girls getaway, and chose this Inn. Great choice. All the cottages and rooms have had a complete makeover, but retain the old tropical island inn charm.
We stayed at Kimball Lodge, ground floor, deluxe room, views of the beach, which was right outside our screened little lanai. We were pleased to have the availability of a kitchenette in our room. The service was wonderful but not intrusive. The cleanliness of our room was as good as any 5 star hotel. The property is kept clean and well groomed and the tropical palms and flowers are abundant. We enjoyed long walks on the beautiful beach, swimming in the pool, and dining at the onsite restaurant. Great food. Anything you wanted, chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, etc. was available...just ask the lovely people at the office. We shall definitely go again.

Room Tip: No bad rooms. Depends on the number of people in your group. We were 2 friends so we chose a room w...

We stayed at the Island Inn in Sanibel for a 15th anniversary trip. We couldn't have asked for a better location. A nice quiet location right on the Gulf of Mexico. We had a screened in balcony that was the perfect place to sit to watch and listen to the waves on the beach, even during the rain that we had a few times during our trip. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful at this historic inn. The breakfast they had available to guests was delicious. They even went out of their way to make our anniversary special with a bottle of champagne and special towel animals waiting for us in our room. I would definately recommend this inn as a beautiful place to stay if you are visiting Sanibel.

Room Tip: Matthews Lodge, second floor had beautiful views of the gulf/sunset

We stayed in the Starky Lodge where the rooms have recently been renovated. The room and property were spacious, clean and comfortable for the 4 of us and included an efficiency kitchen. The screened in porch was terrific for evenings and the view of the gulf was spectacular. Management and staff were helpful and friendly, and the continental breakfast was more than expected.
We also enjoyed a delightful dinner with live music at Traditions Restaurant on the property. We would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun time on Sanibel.

Room Tip: All rooms and cottages face the gulf

Spent 3 nights at the Island Inn back in June. Myself, my handicapped daughter, son in law and 2 grandsons (ages 9 and 11) What a wonderful experience! We were in the Kimball Lodge on the ground floor. Room was all updated and bathroom was huge. Had a mini frige-microwave and coffee pot. Also include table service for 4 (dishes cups and silverware) The beach was probably only 50 feet from our door and the pool was also a short walk from our room. Beach chairs were plentiful and each day we would put a chair at the edge of the water so my daughter could collect shells as they came in. The pool was very nice (and warm). Breakfast was sufficient with many pastries and coffee and juices. They gave me a tray so I could take the goodies back to our room to enjoy on the screen porch. There is also a large community room available, where we went to play cards - it has a TV and books to enjoy. We really enjoyed our stay and everyone wants to go back next year for a longer visit-hopefully we can get the same room as it worked out so well for us. The staff was super friendly and housekeeping did a great job. It was so relaxing and the grandkids hated to leave. Can't wait to go back.

This is a property from the early years that has kept its ambience. It consists of gulf view cottages and hotel rooms that all have been updated. Amenities are tennis, shuffleboard, horseshoe, volleyball, BBQ grills, and heated pool. On site rentals for biking, paddle board, kayak. Towels and beach chairs complimentary. Free WI-FI. Onsite restaurant, bar, and lounge that has music Wed.-Sat. It is open evenings only M-S. Continental breakfast is free but is not good. Mainly plates of cheap mass produced pastries which is stated in all reviews so I question why the property doesn't take this concern seriously. Not at all a healthy way for kids to start the day, sugar high!

Thank you for staying at the Island Inn and for taking the time to share your experience. For prospective guests, our Complimentary light Continental breakfast consists of fresh baked pastries, fresh cut fruit, hardboiled eggs, yogurt assortment, coffee, tea and fresh squeezed juices. All accommodations are equipped with either a microwave/coffee maker/small refrigerator or a full kitchen, so if the Inn’s Complimentary breakfast items offered do not match dietary preferences guests can have their own breakfast overlooking the Gulf on their screened in porch!

Again, thank you for your patronage and comments. We hope your travels home were safe and you are able to visit Sanibel Island again soon! :-)

Our one week stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. Our room at Kimball was newly remodeled and very clean. Our daughters stayed on the pull out couch which had an inflatable mattress so they found it to be comfortable. The kitchen had new appliances as well as plates, cups etc ....
We had a screened in porch with a view of the water-very nice.
They offered complimentary breakfast every day. It was the same each day coffee, juices , water, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, pastries, mini doughnuts, and fresh fruit. We were happy with the simple choices ----the servers were very friendly.
The beach was steps away from our room--they had free chairs to borrow--always plenty around. Umbrellas could be rented for a small fee. Beach was great TONS of shells! The water was perfect-calm, warm. We found sanddollars, nine point starfish, and other cool creatures in the water.
The pool was nice, at times the water got really warm.
Laundry machines were available.
We rented bikes which was a lot of fun.
Overall we had a great stay and would return.

Green Features: Towels hung up would remain, towels on floor were replaced.

As soon as we got in our gulf-side first floor room in Kimball lodge and opened the curtain, I was in paradise. The ocean is steps away and the best shelling is right there. Parking can be an issue on the island, but at Island Inn you can park close by your room and there is no need to go anywhere else. For sunset, I had to walk down the beach a while because the curve of land blocks the sun a little, but its a nice walk. I got fantastic shells and photos. There's a laundry room, shell cleaning room, and feet rinsing station. The ladies in the office were most helpful. There are only 2 negatives: the first one is the breakfast- the pastries were either hard or stale and the fruit was not ripe. Your best bet is yogurt and hard-boiled eggs. The second negative, and this is not the owners' fault, was our whole family did not sleep on our first night. The lady upstairs, who must have had heels or huge clunky sandals, paced back and forth, outside and inside, and moved furniture at 10 pm, 1 am, 3:30 am, and 5:30 am. It was awful. So you could quite possibly hear everything right above you. We even have a white-noise sound machine, but it didn't help at all. If this happens to you, we found that you can call a night watchman on your room phone, but we didn't know at the time. No sleep definitely put a damper on our otherwise great stay. You might consider staying on the second floor but you won't have direct access to the beach by walking out of the screened porch. This is a minor inconvenience for a good night's rest from a long day in paradise. I will be back.
