“Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

My husband and I just returned from our yearly vacation in Sanibel. This was our 13th year staying at Shalimar. It is one of Sanibel's hidden gems. Our motel room is clean and comfortable, and best of all is the view of the Gulf of Mexico. Every night we sit on the lanai with our glasses of wine and watch the sun set. If you like the beach, there is nothing closer on Sanibel than Shalimar! Management, starting from the top with Romas, are friendly and accommodating.

We see many of the same people year after year, in fact, one couple we've met have been coming to Shalimar for 40 years!

The property is well maintained and each year we go we find that some new improvement has been made.

Each year when we check out there is never any question about re-booking for the next year!

Would highly recommend this property!

We stayed at Shalimar for our Christmas vacation and it was absolutely one of our favorite vacations ever!! We PURPOSELY chose Sanibel Island for its world class shelling, and RANDOMLY chose the Shalimar Cottages from a website....BOTH choices were fantastic!! We actually tried to stay an extra day because we didn't want to leave but the room was already booked!! Cute, clean and comfy--we are already counting the days until next Christmas when we will definitely return to the Shalimar Motel!! Thank you Romas for a wonderful week!

Room Tip: As others have said, walls are thin in the efficiency motel units so if you are looking for extreme...

We stayed at Shalimar for a week recently in one of the cottages - well, actually two. The first cottage we were in had just had new sliding glass doors installed and the installers neglected to install a latch on one of the doors, so it couldn't be locked. We didn't discover this until we had dinner cooking the first night. We were offered another cottage right away but chose to move the next morning. We were moved to cottage #3 which offered a view of sunsets on the beach - a vast improvement! All cottages are well appointed with small kitchen, living/dining room & bedroom with king sized bed, 2 dressers and 2 armoires in addition to a closet. Bathrooms off the bedrooms offered an additional entry to the unit from an outdoor shower - handy after spending time on the beach!! Only negative was that the floors in the unit were very dirty and we had an old fridge with rust on it. We bought flip flops not for the beach, but for walking around inside the cottage. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wi-fi worked great. Lots of movies available at the office to borrow to watch - we borrowed one but were so busy all week we never actually watched it :) Very quiet and private and literally steps to the beach. Lots of great shelling steps from your room. We found so many, we had to leave some behind. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: If you can, go for one of the cottages right on the beach, but stay away from the one nearest the dr...

This place is great. The prices are fair and the office staff is great. I have stayed here several years now and the last room of the motel is directly on the beach. Beach front enjoyment with no sand in your toes. The rooms are super clean and with the small kitchen it is a great way to save money-especially with the restaurant prices on the island. I will be back again next year and think that this place is a great place to stay.

We spent two lovely evenings at the Shalimar in one of the rooms in the two-storey motel building. It was spacious and very clean, nicely appointed. I enjoyed an excellent complimentary wireless internet connection, and if we had stayed longer we would no doubt have made use of the little kitchenette. It was nice to a fridge for and the option of preparing food. The room had a wonderful screened in balcony overlooking the gorgeous beach, facing the side of the island on which the sun sets. It was such a treat to sit out on that balcony, and to have the doors open at night, to fall asleep to the gulf breeze and sound of the surf. We only needed to walk out the door to enjoy a walk on the beach, one of the nicest I’ve ever visited. The shelling we did in front of the Shalimar was some of the best we found on the island. The staff was courteous and the location could not have been better. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in Room 15

Shalimar offers rooms and cottages. We selected a room and were rewarded with a wonderful studio room; tiny kitchen, huge king sized bed, dressers, a desk, two cosy chairs, a dining table for two and a marvelous screened porch, with another table for two. The room was perfectly situated to allow us to watch beach sunsets. Shalimar is right at the beach, just an awesome place. The only shortfall for the rooms is that they are not perfectly insulated for sound. But all in all an amazing couple of days of owning ideal beach front property. The rooms are wonderfully decorated in a shell/ island theme, and everything you need for dishes or pans is in the kitchen.

This was our first stay at Shalimar, and when I walked into our room #9 it was decorated just like our own home. It was so bright, clean, and had a well equipped kitchen. We had a beautiful gulf view from our first floor motel room. The staff was very nice and helpful. We will definitely be going back to Shalimar.

Room Tip: Lower floor had foot traffic noise. The first night was normal, but the people that came in the sec...
