“Absolutely wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

If you're looking for fancy and spa-like, go somewhere else. If you're looking for a genuine old-Florida vacation experience, get here as quick as you can. My daughter and I wanted a stress-free getaway for the long holiday weekend and are SO GLAD that we chose this Holiday Inn. Perfect perfect perfect.

We were greeted IMMEDIATELY by the smiling front desk staff member who gave us a quick but thorough run-down of the amenities.

Our room and bathroom were cheerful and spotless - immaculate. We loved that there was a decent sized refrigerator and microwave in the room as we were able to buy cold cuts and breakfast stuff at Publix and saved a lot of money on meals. The beds and pillows were comfortable enough that we both slept really well all three nights (and we both tend to have trouble sleeping in hotels so that's saying a lot.)

The pool area was great - the grounds were lovely - and the beach was RIGHT THERE. But best of all, there were HAMMOCKS!! IN THE TREES!!! Color me happy. :)

Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. We had more towels than we could use, the housekeeping staff was very accommodating the tiki bar bartenders were fabulous and the restaurant was a delight. Although we felt the drinks at the tiki bar were a little pricey, the restaurant was in line with everywhere else in the area and the food and service were top-notch. We were lucky enough to arrive on Thursday which was sushi night and had AMAZING sushi - I've had the best of the best in Chicago and Los Angeles and this was right up there. I'd consider making the drive from Sarasota just for more of it on another night! We had dinner there Saturday night as well and were just as pleased with the traditional menu offerings.

Although we were there over a holiday weekend and the place was full to capacity the pool and the beach areas NEVER felt crowded.

i'd like to suggest some kind of covered area where guests could still sit "outside" when it's raining... which it did a lot this weekend. And we wished the tiki bar was open later! Those are minor details in our overall experience though.

Thank you for a wonderful 4 days.

I'll pass along your nice comments concerning the staff, thanks! So you were here for one of Starfish Grille's two weekly sushi nights(Tuesday & Thursday), totally agree with you; it's great!
Thanks for staying with us.

Spend two nights here. The hotel itself is a typical Holiday inn but the location is fabulous. It is right on the beach full of seashells. The hotel even giving you shelling bag. Our room was ok and the bathroom was very small.
Had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was ok and overpriced and they added 18% gratuity even though the service was terrible.

Thanks for staying with us! We appreciate you sharing your comments. Very pleased you enjoyed the beach here and the shells, hope you come back and visit again. Sorry that you were disappointed with the service at the Starfish Grille and the added gratuity. I will pass your comments along to their management.

We are locals who wanted a beautiful relaxing beachfront place to spend the fourth of July and we found it at this Holiday Inn. Staff was friendly and accommodating from the front desk to the tiki bar (best pina colada) to the on-site restaurant (best blueberry pancakes). Our pool-side room was clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities. Steps from the fabulous beach with lounge chairs provided. We loved it!

Room Tip: Book on the first floor if you don't want to tote your belongings upstairs since there are no el...

Even though I'm a Holiday Inn customer.. This property should not have a Holiday Inn Flag.
The rooms are as if it was a 2 star motel .. My room had a moldy smell and the customer service from the staff is the worst I ever had.. I even was told by an employee named Jesus that they didn't had to abide by Holiday Inn Rules because they were a franchise... This was super rude... I though the whole reason of being and IHG property was that you had to go by their rules... Your front desk agents are not friendly at all... Customer service is the key of an amazing experience and your staff is definitely missing the whole point of customer service. The only good thing I have to say about this property is that is right there on the beach.... Will definitely never go back to this Holiday Inn

We are proud to be a Holiday Inn and part of the IHG hotel family. I agree with you, guest service is everything. I am sorry we let you down. Thank you for your comments.

Thanks Sharon, Claudia and the rest of the staff. We enjoyed our stay. Ate lunch poolside each day. Great variety. Friendly staff again !!! It was the girls first time there. They loved it as much as I do. We will go back !! Sincerely. Jo, Savannah and Dakota

You feel welcomed from the time you walk in the lobby. The staff is so accommodating and helpful. No matter what time of day you need something, they all remained friendly. I even needed a cup of coffee late night and the hotel receptionist in the lobby made me a fresh pot. The location is ideal. Our room faced the ocean and pool. It was not loud even with the entertainment that occurs each day at the pool. This resort is like home. You can rent bikes, take a stroll right on the beach, relax in a hammock, watch a gator in the pond, play ping pong or bean bag in the lawn. They have it all. The restaurant food was very good and a the breakfast buffet is well worth it. The room was comfortable and contained all the amenities you need away from home- refrigerator, microwave, plenty of towels. Rooms could have bigger bathrooms but you probably are not going to spend a great deal of time in your room if you are on Sanibel. They even give you a beach bag at check in which is very helpful when you adventure out for shelling. It's a take home souvenir. They do have two ponds on property and they do occasionally contain a gator. These are not pets. They did not bother us and we have some great pictures of the gator. This is not uncommon for Sanibel. We rented bikes each day. The cost was reasonable for a full day rental. Biking is the best way to see the island. The maintenance staff was great. They pumped up our tires each day. You get a bike lock to use with the bike and each is equipped with a basket. We used the laundry for wash. It was perfect since we stayed 5 days here and then traveled to Key West. Washing clothing helped with not having to pack too much.

Room Tip: Rooms near pool with ocean view are nice but need second floor room to see the ocean. No elevators t...

We live in central Florida and love traveling to Sanibel Island for special occasions and for no occasion at all. People trying to research where to stay here may overlook a chain like Holiday Inn, but we have never wanted to stay anywhere else on Sanibel. Very welcoming, friendly staff, restaurant on premises, a pathway to the beach, even a sink outside to wash your shells, for which this island is so famous. The colors used for the buildings and the landscaping make you wish you could live here at the hotel itself, it is just two stories high, a few years back they put in gorgeously colored paving stones in the parking lots, and the rooms are tropical, the furniture really nice, and white indoor shutters which I want to get for our house. We really love it there, it is in a quiet area, and we look forward to going there every time. There is also a swimming pool with poolside bar, grassy lawns near the beach, ponds, and lounge chairs set up on the lawn and on the beach.

Room Tip: Any room is good but we like the ones in the little courtyard near the entrance which has alot of fl...
