“Wonderful location, nice rooms, good service, excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2007

This is a late review.
Stayed at the Sanibel Inn just after New Years 2007. This was our second stay at this property in Sanibel.
The property is very nicely located on the island, with only a vegative windbreak between the Inn and the beach. You can easily see over the windbreak.
As we had 5 nights booked here in 2007, we opted for the more expensive suite (2nd floor, directly facing the ocean). For our 2006 visit, we had a 1st floor standard room with a balcony. Both rooms are very nice, with excellent views. The suite is larger, with a separate bedroom area, and small efficency kitchen.
There is a very pretty, well landscaped, sunning area with a tiki-hut for drinks and sandwhiches located around the pool. The pool is on the small side, but well heated and definately adequate for this time of year.
There are also gas grills available in a convenient location(which we used a couple of nights).
Beach chairs are provided gratis as are bikes and various pool toys.
The on site restaurant, Ellington's, is excellent , classy and pricey.- (and worth it). The bartender made us some really excellent, refreshing drinks- not fufu- just outstanding standard cocktails. They have live music (jazz) several nights throughout the week. We listen to a lot of live music, and we thought the music here was much better-than-average.

Service here is consistently very good.

The beach here is ungroomed, natural, very pretty, and usually quiet, not crowded at all.

This is a great place to kick back , relax, and enjoy some beach time!

If your looking at the Sanibel Inn Website to determine what your unit will look like, dont bother. I booked the Inn for my 25th Wedding anniversary get away and was so upset to find a complex in need of some major updating. I have been coming to Sanibel for many years (always use Royal Shell) with my children and we always book a condo unit on the beach through Royal Shell. Their internet pictures and description of the unit and complex are always on the mark. I decided to go the Sanibel Inn because are stay was shorter and most condo units only book from sat. to sat.. The pictures on the Inn's website show a beautiful appointed unit with up to date furnishings, guess again. On the upside the staff is extremely helpful and friendly and you just cant beat the sanibel beaches and sunset. We made the best of it even with the ants in the kitchen (got to expect some bugs in florida) and spent as much time relaxing and enjoying the beach as possible.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Sanibel Inn. We had an excellent time and would return again. I will start out with the good, which was plentiful, and end with the bad, which were few and successfully addressed by the hotel manager.

We decided on a Beachfront Suite so that our son, who is 2, could sleep in the bedroom while my husband and I relaxed in the living room area. The suite was clean and comfortable and it was amazing to have the beach view from our room every day, especially in the morning when we had breakfast together. There is a tv in the main living area and one in the bedroom, which was nice, although we did not watch much tv with the amazing weather, the beach and a good book. A small but sufficient fridge allowed us to have meals in the room many times. We went to Jerry's grocery and stocked up our first day. The negative was that we did have some items turn up missing after a visit from housekeeping, some inexpensive bath items and one moderately pricey electronics item. However, this issue was resolved when I brought it to the manager's attention.

Overall we had a relaxed, comfortable, incredibly enjoyable stay at Sanibel and the Sanibel Inn. We highly recommend it.

This is a very quaint hotel. Please note there are no big chains in Sanibel so you are limited to inns and mini motels. This one was very cute and had good accomodations.

Room:

The rooms were pretty spacious. They had a mini kitchen and good living space. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place as well. I am a cleaning snob. There were some spots the maid missed, like in the corners and in some little areas where dusting would have been helpful.

Pool and Beach

The pool is way tiny, so if you have kids- not the pool to be at. The sister property has the right size pool for kids--you can use that. The beach at this hotel is just lovely, great beach spot. The hot tub was way too hot, everyone complained about it. However, when I advised management after we left they seemed to address it.

Food

They offer a continental breakfast in the office in the morning. It has a good selection. The local grocery called Jerry's has some neat stuff and the prices are not bad.

All and all I would rate this a great little place for the type of accomodations you are restricted to on the island. Not a place for kids at all however. We did not have any kids with us so it suited two adults in their late 30's just fine.

My family and I visited Sanibel July 1-4th 2007 and we loved the Sanibel Inn! We had a pool view and it was wonderful! The staff was always willing to help and answer quesitons. We met some very nice people while staying there. The hotel has a great family environment. Although the pool was warm, it was still refreshing. What do you expect from Florida in July! We cannot wait to come and visit again. We will defiately stay at the Sanibel Inn!

We live in Clearwater, Fl. Area, so went for a quick trip. We hadn't been to Sanibel since the Hurricanes and we used to go every year. We have stayed in different hotels each time. I was a little disappointed by the room only because the photos portrayed a nicer appearance. The room was clean, no bugs, but kind of small. (We had a beachfront guestroom with 2 beds. Our family consists of 3) No fault of the Hotel but the water in the pool and the ocean was hot. We hadn't been in July before, and it is Florida! It was full of kids which is nice for families. No Bunnies or butterflies for us. We ate at Mucky Duck and Matzaluna, which we always have to because we love it. We tried Doc Fords place and were truly impressed. The location seems not so good because there is no view but the food was OUTSTANDING! It's a sports bar atmosphere and the kids menu is the best in town. It's on Rabbit road, and if you travel that road early in the AM you will see Rabbits! Our last visit we stayed on W. Gulf Dr. and it was less populated which we like. We would have stayed there this time too but they didn't have our room. We probably won't go back to Sanibel Inn because it will either be the Waterside Inn or somwhere new.

Our stay at The Sanibel Inn couldn't be better. We had the best stay during our kids Spring Vacation Break. We stayed 4 nights in a Beach Suite, it was clean and beautifully appointed. Our unit was on the first floor, end by the pool. We had a gorgeous beach view from our living room (see picture)

We loved the room set up, king bed in the bedroom and sleep sofa in the living room. The living room also has a microwave & fridge, as well as dvd player for the tv set. You can rent dvd's at the front desk. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We found the housekeeping staff to be very efficient, our room was always very
clean and well stocked. The grounds are beautful, we stayed in the Jasmine Building and noticed the bushes in front of building were, in fact Jasmine (nice touch). The pool was clean and plenty big enough for our 2 kids to explore, we loved the poolside bar for cocktails and lunch.

The beach was just steps from our door, there was a bit of red tide when we were there, but we didn't mind....it's the beach!!! That's all a part of the beach experience sometimes, really not a big deal.
We can't wait to return. We loved the Inn and we found the Island was to be very laid back (not pricey at all) and there was plenty to do, beautiful beaches loaded with shells, kayak rentals, and great restaurants.
