“Great venue, lousy play”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012

What a lovely building and the theatre itself is small and intimate so you're right there with the cast, almost part of the play itself. We saw Marriage is Murder which would've been better titled This Play is Murder! The actors, particularly the male actor, were poor, very amateurish indeed! However, for all that it was a pleasant night out and in a funny sort of way, quite enjoyable. We would see another play here given the opportunity as the facility itself is very good and you're supporting a good cause.

Thank you so much for both your visit and your post. We really appreciate the feedback that we receive from theater patrons like yourself.

The Herb Strauss Theater has had much success over the last few years in producing high-quality Professional Theater. However, Marriage is Murder is our first attempt at staging a full-scale Community Theater production.

Being that Sanibel is such a seasonal community, it is very difficult to maintain the cost of Professional Theater during the summer months. We decided it would be a good idea to try and get the community involved during these months and provide a theatrical outlet for our local residents.

Obviously with this change comes a huge difference in ticket cost. Our professional productions that run from November-April have a $42 ticket price, and our Community Theater productions that run from May-August have a $15 ticket price.

We can certainly respect your disappointment in your evening of theater and we only hope that if you crave higher quality productions that you will visit us again during high-season and see what our Professional Theater has to offer.

If a higher quality of Community Theater is what you crave, we hope that as this very new program continues to grow, that we can improve upon all of the concerns that you have raised.

Again, thank you for your post. We sincerely hope to provide an exemplary night of theater for you in the near future.

“Nice theater but not a great play”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2012

We went for an opening night play with two actors who needed to work out the kinks in their performances. I think that the play (script) was weak. We left at the intermission.

“Interesting stage”

Just saw "Over the Tavern". Nice cast. All seats were priced the same (in front of or around the stage).

“Theatre in Paridise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

The island of Sanibel has many natural wonders. 70 percent of the island is a wildlife sanctuary. The folks here wanted to have live shows here on the island. They have musical comedy and in a clost surroundings.(200 people) not a bad seat in the place. We go a couple of times a year and always leave with a smile on our face
