“Lots of neat shops with beach related items ,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Periwinkle Way is a great place to ride bikes and stop whenever you please to shop or eat. There is a bike path all around the island making it a safe place to ride and bikes available or rent.

“A nice Drive! Put the Top down your Convertible and enjoy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Periwinkle Way is lined with numerous Art Shops, Boutiques and Restaurants. The majestic looking Bismark Palms and tropical Flowers, the Plantation-like Homes along the way, made this a relaxing Drive! Reminds me of Key West! Between Sanibel and Captiva is a fabulous little Restaurant, called " Sunrise Grill!" We always stop there to eat. Their Gourmet Burgers are super delicious!!! Sit outside and enjoy the View of the turqouis water. This road takes you all the way to the tip of Captiva Island. We love to go Shelling there ! You can get to the Tour Boats there as-well and visit Cabbage Cay, Pine Islands and others.

“Very congested”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I was expecting more of a "town center" or a clustering of shops. The traffic is horrible, both cars, bicyclists & pedestrians & shopping & restaurants are scattered all along this road, making it difficult if you are not sure where things are.

“Chocolate!!! And attitude choices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

If you stop at Periwinkle Shops, go to the chocolate shop! It's not huge, but it's soooo delicious! They have assorted prepackaged candies and cookies, cute gifts to take home, jelly beans in a lot of flavors so you can make your own assortment. They also have several flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt. However, the stars of the show are the chocolates in the cases. There is one case of molded chocolates so you can eat an alligator or collect (edible) shells. Then there is a case with a dozen flavors of truffles as well as fudge. Another case has dozens of chocolates from dipped apricots or pineapple to chocolate-covered Oreos and filled chocolates. The last case has sugar-free chocolates and different kinds of barks and turtles. Ask for an assortment or choose exactly which kinds you like. The friendly clerk will wrap them for you if you want.

This is a small island with -- therefore -- a limited number of roads. You came here for a vacation. The weather is sunny and you're in an air-conditioned car. Take a deep breath, relax and be patient. Be grateful for a bridge to drive over. Six dollars is an inexpensive fee to reach a beautiful, calm place. At one time you would have had to wait for a ferry and pay for that, too. Be aware of bicycles on the paths. Many people choose to ride that way and your car is a lot bigger, heavier and faster than their bicycle. Above all, relax. You don't have a deadline. Unlike residents of the island, you're not going to work. If you sit at a driveway waiting for traffic to pass, enjoy looking at the flowers and trees. Attitude is everything. Do you want your vacation memories to be exasperation at having to wait a few minutes or the pleasure of seeing sunny skies, bright hibiscus and palm trees? It's your choice.
