Though it is a small hotel/resort, it just doesn't get any better! Traveling for the first time with my 11 month old son, I was nervous about everything, including activities and accommodations. I called the hotel a handful of times before our trip with all sorts of questions, and everyone was always super nice and helpful.

The room was awesome! Very very clean. Lots of attention to detail. Flat screen TV, DVD player, awesome screened in balcony. Even Herman Miller Aeron Chairs at the desk and table. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Continental breakfast was always yummy, however it is only carbs -- lots of pastries, croissants, bagels, etc. No fruit or cereal. Also, the coffee was not so great. But that would be one of my very few complaints. It helped having a toaster oven, fridge and microwave in our room, so we could bring home leftovers from dinner to have for lunch.

The pool was great, again, very clean and well kept. Same with the beach, although I was unaware of how shelly it would be. The whole island is like that though. And the beach is a bit narrow in front of the hotel. We walked every morning on the beach though, and it was perfect.

The bikes were a huge draw for us, and they are free to use as well. They even had ones with an infant/toddler seat attached so we could all bike together! The island is perfect for bikes, as it has a multi use paved bike trail that goes all over the island. So nice to not have to be fighting with cars on the road. The hotel is a short ride to both the Ding Darling Refuge, and Periwinkle Blvd where most of the stores/restaurants are.

We had a fabulous time here, even with our little one, and trying to keep his napping schedule, etc. I'm sure we'll be back at some point. I highly recommend this hotel. Especially since it is very reasonably priced.

A truly fantastic place. The staff were exceptional, from the Front Desk Sandy and Holly, etc. to the Pool guy Jeff. The cleaning staff were great. Cathy and Barbara made every effort to make our stay a wonderful experience. The grounds were very clean and the continental bkfst was just perfect. Loved the proximity to the beach and the pool. Felt like it was our own personal resort. Met a lot of great people, everyone very friendly. We were given an upgrade before we even arrived and advised to book directly thru them in the future. Stayed a week and I already have plans for 2 weeks next year. Can't wait!! We were in rm 117 but plan on 120 or 219 next time.

We recently held a family reunion at the Sanibel Sunset Beach Resort and were exceptionally pleased with the guest rooms and resort ammenities, but especially with the service that was provided by the staff and specificially, the General Manager, Anthonia Smith. Organizing a large group of individuals is never easy, and changes and special needs/requests were many, but Anthonia was patient and very accomodating every step of the way. The resort's quaint beach and large pool were perfect for group activities that were enjoyed by all. We look forward to visiting Sanibel Beach Resort again!

First, a word on Sanibel Island for those who have not been there. The island is a mellow place with limited nightlife--not like, say Key West or South Beach--although there are plenty of restaurants. The island is also spread out, not great for walking, although there are bike paths. This is the kind of place to go to kick back and relax. I would tend to describe it as a little upscale as well--it is not a bargain, but then again it is not New York or London expensive.

That said, the Sunset fits the character of the island. The hotel a low-slung building that looks more like a well-kept motel. The greatest thing about the place is that you are literally steps from the beach and you can use the hotel's beach chairs and umbrellas gratis. There are a few other modest amenities, including a pool, hammocks, a volleyball court, continental breakfast (pretty limited), free bikes (a little on the old side), and flashlights (to see the sea turtles on the beach at night).

Service was good. The people at the front desk were great, very friendly and informative on things to do on the island. The only disappointment was their policy on checking in (4 o'clock) and checking out (11 am, which can be extended one hour before they charge you).

Our room was a little musty (probably partly because of the humidity and being so close to the gulf) and a little worn looking. However, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and we received nice towels and bath soaps (great for washing up after some swimming/wading). The room also had a large flat screen tv, dvd player, and mini-frig.

We would definitely consider staying here again.

We chose the hotel for its big pool & location right on the beach. It was everything we expected, and more. We reserved a gardenview room, but were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite when we arrived, which was so great, considering we have a 2 year old and a 5 year old. The room was so nice, very clean, and very nicely and comfortably furnished. The beds were very comfortable, bedding was soft, rooms were spacious, and the balcony was great. The hotel was small, which meant very short walks from parking lot to room, to front desk, to pool, and to beach, very important when you're carrying a 2 year old and gear. The grounds were well kept, the staff was friendly, there was no noise from other rooms, etc. We absolutely loved the hotel, and would stay there again in a heartbeat. I can't think of anything bad to say; we just really enjoyed the whole thing. And, it rained on and off the whole weekend, but with the pool and beach being literally just steps away, it wasn't a big deal at all. You could get out of the ocean and be back in your room in less than 2 minutes; it's all that close.

  • Liked — Great modern room, steps to pool & steps to beach
  • Disliked — A little far from restaurants & shops
