Great place for a quiet, easy going vacation. You can't get any closer to the beach! Everyone was friendly and helpful...everything we wanted without paying $$$ for things we did not need or want. The rooms were clean, newly renovated and the screen porch was great! We used the bikes to do some sightseeing and some shopping...one day walked to a neighboring property for lunch at their pool. Be sure to stay on the second or first floor and avoid the below grade rooms.

Room Tip: First or second floor rooms only-avoid the below grade rooms. The west facing units looked great wit...

We really enjoyed our stay, we were not looking for anything to fancy just wanted to get away for a few days. The weather was perfect,, we played some tennis and hit the beach.

The staff was very helpful and assisted wiht selecting dining options for us. Our room was clean, the cleaning lady beacme our friend. If we wanted somethng done we asked or went down to the frontdesk and they answer our needs.

We will be back and keep up the good work .

We encountered challenging issues at the hotel that if they would have been corrected since the beginning, it may have resulted in a better then poor stay.
Check in
Upon check in Kim Carvalho advised us that we were I room 144, a basement type or room with a view of the garden limited to a half window. When asked why, she told us "that is what you paid for" despite the fact that no mentioned of it was made during the reservations process.
Room 144
While the room was roomy, it definitely showed its use and abuse:
The bed made squeaking noises when you sat, move or got up.
The floor was not mopped and we could feel the sand and dirt necessitating us to throw towels on the floor to lessen our disgust. Furthermore, we now it was never mopped or clean the next day either as we saw the maid enter the room without a cleaning cart.
The bathroom had dirt on the wall by the toilet paper, the shower curtain had mold and lacked a couple of hooks.
The most disgusting part of the bathroom was the light which lacked one bulb and was full of insect debris.
The tv had poor reception.
The microwave was full of rust inside as we'll as the mini fridge.
Despite reporting the issues, no corrections were made.
Lastly, we requested a late check out and while the agent, Kim, confirmed that there were no arrivals for the room; we would have to pay an additional $50 to remain for two more hours.
I believe that the property is in a great location and has high potential in the future provided that a considerable investment and change in their service approach is made.

This was our second time there, always a friendly staff, took the kids with us this time they had a wonderful time fishing. We had a very nice room, close to the beach, went bike riding around the island. Have been there during "season" when it is very busy and also "off season" so during season it is very busy and we had to wait a bit for our room, but got to enjoy the grounds while we were there. Off season is much easier to get into your room before "check-in"...

I stayed here 5 times. It is very quiet, bikes to use are free and fun, and the beach is right out your door. The rooms were clean, I was able to get into my room in a timely manor and staff was accommodating. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the family.

This place is a nightmare! Within minutes of entering the grounds of The Sunset Beach Inn I knew we were in for a real disappointment. Upon our arrival we were told that our room wasn't ready and the nice receptionist told us she was going to speak with housekeeping to give us a better idea of when we may be able to check into our room. When the front desk receptionist returned she had obviously been told by housekeeping that they would get to our room when they were good and ready. WIth that we headed to the beach until 5:00 when we returned to find our room available. The room was not as it appears on the web site. They claim they have undergone a major renovation and yet we find the accommodations less than average considering the price. The comforter was not clean and had a shoe print marked on it. The desk top had not been wiped clean and the bathroom floor was dirty (along with previous guests hairs). The kitchen area (if that is what they call it) had a mini fridge and a toaster oven that had no handle and operated like something I had in college. Because our room was directly across from the housekeeping closet we were fortunate enough to hear the staff argue loudly every morning about who stole one another's cleaning products. When I firmly asked them to stop and watch their language as my children were trying to sleep I was met with irritation and disrespect. It was literally shocking! When I told the front desk the general manager barely made eye contact and told me she would put it into the book. She also told me that the staff was receiving "counseling" regarding their behavior. Seriously?? Having no toilet paper in our room I proceeded to front desk to inquire and was told that the delivery truck hadn't arrived and I was asked to just use my tissues until tomorrow. On our last day the fire alarm malfunctioned and sounded for three hours within our room/grounds of the hotel. This, along with the no towels for the pool or beach, filthy seat cushions on the pool furniture/loungers. No available beach chairs or umbrellas.....the list of mishaps goes on and on....do not throw your money to these people. The staff needs a customer service boot camp and the hotel needs a good cleaning!

Don't waste your money at this dump. Guy at the front desk was one of the rudest I have ever meet working in a hotel. We got stuck in a moldy, musty basement room that the door would not lock in. When I went back to see if there was anything else he could care less. Pool and beach were nice but hotel should be torn down and replaced with something else. Not sure where the people writing good reviews stayed but sure was not the same place I did.

Room Tip: If you get stuck at this hotel don't get a sanibel room they are in the basement
