“Loved the Seaside Inn”

Seaside Inn

We stayed at the hotel in January 2007 for a week and just loved it! We had four little kids under the age of 8 with us and they cannot wait to go back next year and so we already booked for next year! Every aspect of our stay was great! The hotel staff was always available and very helpful. They put the umbrellas and chairs out on the beach for us each day. The beach was incredible and after touring the whole island I would say probably the best on the island. There are endless amounts of beautiful seashells! The pool was so nice and warm! We fist were in a one bedroom cottage which I highly recommend...they are nicely decorated, great layout, comfortable beds, great kitchen, and nice private decks. We ended up switching to the 3 bedroom unit just because the kids could each have their own bed and more space! We also loved this unit for our large family. Each evening the staff delivered a basket with danishes, coffee and orange juice for the following morning. The town is just a few minutes drive and you can stock up on groceries at Jerry's. We utilized the very accessible laundry facilities several times! The property has only 32 units and so it has a very cozy, private, and safe atmosphere. I would recommend this for a couple looking for a romantic getaway or for a family that does not want the big resort feel. We felt very comfortable having our kids run between the beach and the room. We checked out every hotel on the island to make sure we were booking the best for next year! If for some reason this hotel is booked then consider Song of the Sea which would be our second choice. It is just down the road and also, small & cozy. We also did an all day private boat charter out to Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key with Water Experiences at www.sunsetride.com. This was better than taking a big group charter because we saw so much more and we were on our own schedule. Capt Mark Hatfield and Theresa were so friendly and great with the kids! See the group photo with them! This was the kid's favorite part of the trip and a must do! This would be great for couples or for a family! Make sure to also go to the Shell Museum, visit the J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, dine at Gramma Dot's and at the Bubble Room on Captiva. Have fun in the sun!

We loved the quiet comfort that this place provided. It was on the beach but had a pool as well, which made both of us happy!
We chose this particular place because of the free bikes available and the breakfast delivered directly to your room each day.
The staff was wonderful and knowlegdeable. The extreme cleanliness of the rooms and the friendly, efficient housekeeping staff alaso added to the pleasure of our time there.
We did not have one disappointing dinner during our 5 night stay. All of the restaurants we chose were of the highest quality.
We came home to 40 degrees and rain, but were so relaxed and happy!
The real selling point of the Seaside Inn is that we will definitely return next year, hopefully for even a longer stay!

We spent Christmas week at the Seaside Inn. It was just perfect. We had a one bedroom apt on the gulf. The waterview was spectacular, the pool was warm, the staff went out of their way to be helpful. The kids could just fall out on to the beach. The water on Sanibel is not as lovely as I might have hoped, but everything else was just perfect.

“Bugs crawled on me at night!”

Seaside Inn

Aug 26, 2006

The room had a very distinct odor but otherwise appeared decent.
Bed bugs decided to make their appearance as we were laying in bed reading almost ready to turn off the last light. First , I saw a bug on the bed but just figured it was a small beetle. Then I noticed another. One landed on my wrist. I was horrified when I realized that there were many bugs. I jumped out of bed. They were on the bed, under the mattress, and on the floor next to the bed by my suitcase. Needless to say, we quickly got dressed, packed up and left without sleeping here.
The hotel appeared nice and I never expected this to happen to me.
They were definitely bed bugs.
I had to throw away my suitcase after returning home because a bedbug was found hiding on the outside zipper. Beware. From now on, I will look for their telltale signs before ever sleeping in another hotel bed. They leave excrement marks.
The management denied their presence. I will never stay here again.

Although I personally checked the room, I immediately called our pesticide company. After a complete inspection, they informed me that there was no signs of bedbugs. We have regular inspections every 30 days and have never had a problem.

My husband and I stayed at the Seaside Inn from July 18-22. We were surprsied at how small the inn was - but this turned out to be great, because it was very quiet and peaceful. It was on the southern tip of the island, away from the main areas.

Pros: 1. Staff - very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. When we asked for an umbrella for the beach, some one was out within minutes. Very nice!
2. Proximity to beach - once we left our door, we were on the beach in about 1 minute.
3. Pool area - very nice. Small, but nice.
4. Small kitchenette - stocked with plates, glasses, silverware. Even had papertowels, drainboard, soap, etc. We went to a local grocery store (Jerry's) and bought things to make our lunch during the week. That saved money for sure!
5. DVD collection - on evenings where we wanted to be inside after dark, we'd take a movie from the office. That was nice.

Cons: 1. Maid service - average at best. Our room was very clean and presentable when we got there. Most mornings she maid was not there until 2 pm or so, and all she did was pull up the sheets (never changed them) and gave us new towels. We never got more toilet paper unless we were REALLY low, never stocked disposable cups in bathroom, and once even forgot to leave us a breakfast basket for the next day. Our shower had lots of mildew and needed a good scrubbing. I considered saying something when we checked out, but decided against it.
2. Shared "balcony: - while it was nice, it was not private. People used it as a walkway, which made it kind of noisey.

There was a nasty Red Tide while we were there, and the staff tried to keep the beach clean of dead fish as much as they were allowed to. The breakfast basket was OK - just a danish, some fruit, and water. Not really continental, but was better than nothing. All in all, we had a great stay there. I would recommend it to friends and family!
