We originally had reservations at the Sunset Beach Resort but because they overbooked we were put here instead. They did not call us until we were on our way down the road to inform us - that is how it started. The place when we arrived was much older than I had hoped for but we decided to try it anyway. There were small bugs in the little kitchen area we had, the beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were FLAT. I must say the people there were very friendly and tried their best to be accommodating but when you are expecting to spend your time at one location and then get moved to another at the last minute does not speak well of their business practices. Parking was also a problem here.. very limited.

The location of the Seaside Inn is great on Sanibel Island. However, our room was not the best... I had requested a second floor room, but we were put in a first floor nearest the street. I was a bit upset about this, then, we were not told it was a handicapped room. The shower leaked into the bath area because it was lower for wheel chair use, and there was no shelf in the shower for shampoo, etc.... so, you had to reach out near the sink for your soap and other items. The carpet had stains and the window treatments were poor, looked hand-made.

The pool was salt water, old, and needed to be redone. There were not enough umbrellas around the pool to get out of the hot Florida sun.

One positive was that they had free bicycles to use on the island. Of course this is one of the best things about Sanibel, you can bike ride everywhere!!

My husband and I just came back from Sanibel Island. We stayed four nights from June 17 to June 21 for our anniversary at the Seaside Inn. We had perfect weather except for two thunderstorms on two nights. The Gulf of Mexico was beautiful to swim in. We loved the calm water and the temperature.

Our first day we immediately went to the beach at the Seaside Inn. We found two chairs with an umbrella set up on the beach. The beach is only a short walk from the hotel. The water was so nice and calm. WE LOVED IT SO MUCH! That evening we took a ride to Captiva and ate at the Bubble Room. The food was good and the orange crunch cake was delicious and filling because it is a huge slice.

The second day we took the tram tour in the nature reserve which was very nice. However, the tram car broke down on our trip and we had to wait around 30 minutes for another one to come. After that we went back to the hotel to swim in the afternoon. In the evening we went to The Timbers which is a great seafood restaurant. The seafood was very fresh.

The third day we went bike riding and biked to the Lighthouse Cafe for breakfast. Great food at that cafe. We then went to the Lighthouse and their beach to look around. My husband's bike then got a flat tire, so he had to walk the bike back to the Seaside Inn. The inn gives you free usage of their bikes. Once again we went to the beach in the afternoon and then went to Captiva to see the sunset at the Mucky Duck Restaurant.
The restaurant is located on the beach and has a guitar singer playing while waiting for the sunset. Also served drinks outside. We had an hour and a half wait to eat but it was nice outside with the music and sunset so we did not care about the wait.

Our last day we went shopping and then went sailing in the afternoon in Captiva on a catarmaran boat for two hours. It was beautiful sailing. We saw a few dolphins too. After that we went back to the inn to swim. We just loved being in the gulf. In the evening we went to Mc T's Shrimp House. Overall all the food we had at restaurants were quite good.

We really enjoyed Sanibel Island more then we thought we would and will definitely go back again.

Traveled to Sanibel expecting a first class resort based on described amenities and rate. Other than a nice beach the accommodations were mediocre and service was poor. The continental breakfast consisted of frozen, pre-packed muffins from the grocery store and bananas. We were asked to change rooms mid-stay and move our own luggage with no assistance from staff. As the new room was not ready, we were asked to re-pack and store luggae in our car. We left early due to these issues and could not obtain a refund from the hotel or Expedia. In general a poor experience.
