Booked a one bedroom "island residence". Checked in early which was no problem. The place is really just an old condo complex. Had a room on the 2nd floor. Was very surprised upon entering the condo how out of date and old the furnishings were (although here were new appliances in the kitchen). I figured this being called a 4 star resort the linens and furniture would be luxurious. The unit was completely unacceptable and we went to the front desk to request a change. The lady said the resort was completely full even though the parking lot was empty. She said by 5:00 it would be hard to find a parking spot. This ended up being false. The resort was quite empty except for a reunion of spanish people (more on that). Anyway, she said all the units are owned by different people and she had no way to know which units were nicer. So, we stayed where we were-crappy view of grass field. The porch was spacious. One old tv on a rolling cart so you could view it from the living room or bedroom. As far as that goes, it was one open studio. I can’t believe that have the audacity to call an open floorplan with no walls separating the bedroom from living room a one bedroom-false advertising. The mattress was horrible and old and the blankets were from 1977. The kitchen was crawling with ants after we left out a glass of soda. Bathroom was certainly nothing but a standard hotel bathroom. The restaurant was quite bad-only 2 other people dining in there. Beach chairs were placed only in front of the main pool-could not move them from designated area. After calling to confirm that beach equipment was included, I was told when I arrived that umbrellas were an additional $10/day. I hate being nickled and dimed. The sound insulation in the unit was so bad. We could hear people talking from other buildings. The people screaming, singing and carrying on in spanish until 3:00 am was incredibly annoying. Sanibel is typically a place people go for peace and quiet. No consideration. There was one tiny hot tub for the entire "resort" which was always filled with the reunion revelers. The pools were small-just a rectangle, nothing fancy. On the good side, the beach is great although you can not view a sunset from the Sundial as you can from resorts on West Gulf Drive. I would NEVER stay here again. It is like renting a condo with limited amenities. In fact, they charged you $2 for a bag of ice from the sundry store! No ice machines! This is a 4 star resort?? I was shocked because the photos of the units look so nice on the internet but you have no guarantee what you will get. I love Sanibel but not the Sundial..
