Booked a one bedroom "island residence". Checked in early which was no problem. The place is really just an old condo complex. Had a room on the 2nd floor. Was very surprised upon entering the condo how out of date and old the furnishings were (although here were new appliances in the kitchen). I figured this being called a 4 star resort the linens and furniture would be luxurious. The unit was completely unacceptable and we went to the front desk to request a change. The lady said the resort was completely full even though the parking lot was empty. She said by 5:00 it would be hard to find a parking spot. This ended up being false. The resort was quite empty except for a reunion of spanish people (more on that). Anyway, she said all the units are owned by different people and she had no way to know which units were nicer. So, we stayed where we were-crappy view of grass field. The porch was spacious. One old tv on a rolling cart so you could view it from the living room or bedroom. As far as that goes, it was one open studio. I can’t believe that have the audacity to call an open floorplan with no walls separating the bedroom from living room a one bedroom-false advertising. The mattress was horrible and old and the blankets were from 1977. The kitchen was crawling with ants after we left out a glass of soda. Bathroom was certainly nothing but a standard hotel bathroom. The restaurant was quite bad-only 2 other people dining in there. Beach chairs were placed only in front of the main pool-could not move them from designated area. After calling to confirm that beach equipment was included, I was told when I arrived that umbrellas were an additional $10/day. I hate being nickled and dimed. The sound insulation in the unit was so bad. We could hear people talking from other buildings. The people screaming, singing and carrying on in spanish until 3:00 am was incredibly annoying. Sanibel is typically a place people go for peace and quiet. No consideration. There was one tiny hot tub for the entire "resort" which was always filled with the reunion revelers. The pools were small-just a rectangle, nothing fancy. On the good side, the beach is great although you can not view a sunset from the Sundial as you can from resorts on West Gulf Drive. I would NEVER stay here again. It is like renting a condo with limited amenities. In fact, they charged you $2 for a bag of ice from the sundry store! No ice machines! This is a 4 star resort?? I was shocked because the photos of the units look so nice on the internet but you have no guarantee what you will get. I love Sanibel but not the Sundial..

This hotel is advertised as a resort, but is actually condos that are owned personally and rented. Our 2 bedroom island residence ended up smelling of moth balls and dust and featured plastic-coated furniture and stained appliances. The resort's wireless internet was down and water was non-drinkable. Management told us the resort was "full" (though there were no cars in the parking lots) and that we could upgrade for the cost of what we paid per night. They were very unhelpful and never sent someone to clean the smell from our room. We were not happy with our room and felt management did not care to help. Our apartment owner's personal belongings were falling out of the locked cabinets and the kitchen had numerous bugs on all surfaces.

Sundial Beach & Golf Resort is a good place to stay. The view is great but there are some problems. One problem is if you don't book through Sundial Resort you can't swim at the main pool, eat at the restarurant, rent their bikes, or use their pool towels. Other than a few problems this resort is clean and a nice place to stay.

  • Liked — The rooms have great views and are very comfortable.
  • Disliked — Not being able to use the main pool.

I stayed at the Sundial this past w/e. I booked a one bedroom room from the hotels website as they were offering a promotion (if you stay 2 nites you get $50 resort credit and a room upgrade). Mind you the hotels website represents this hotel as "luxury"! Upon arrival to my unit i quickly found out I got a room down grade. My unit was not a one bedroom but RATHER a DINGY studio. The bedroom and living room were all one open area which to me does not constitute one bedroom. And at 200/nite it definitely was NOT worth it. The furniture was reminscent of that of a Days Inn. I complained and was told that it was a one bedroom and there should be a "partition" (which there was not). After calling and speaking to the mgr. I was given the option of another unit. I took the other unit which was BETTER but still not luxury. the tub was small and the railing was falling apart, the bathroom light was dingy and burnt. There was a steak knife left on the patio. The microwave fan didnt work nor most of the buttons for that matter since it looked as thou someone pushed the panel in. One of the stove burners didnt work. And the refrigerator was old and had rust. Additionally, the furniture was outdated. Note: bring/buy dish soap and sponge as none was it room. Plus side: room service came rather quickly when we needed more towels.

As for the grounds, the tennis courts could use some maintenance as the fence/ground needs desperate repair. The grill area next to the tennis court needs to be cleaned as it smells (my guess is from the food/grease falling into the mulch which is disguisting) The shuffleboard most of the sticks are broken. The bright side of staying here the beach is close by, they have several pools one with a slide and a kids center. Note: The main pool has a "dip" sunken hole forming in the middle of the pool about the size of a foot. There is a eatery/bar here but both close by nine i think. The drinks at bar are around 10 and are mediocre which is to be expected.

All and all the only "luxury" thing about this hotel is the lobby and kids activites.

Ok after reading all the bad reviews, I was VERY apprehensive about this resort. Do not believe these reviews. We had an awesome time.We just returned from this vacation and had to post this review! The staff was plentiful and always smiled and said hello when passing by. The food at the 2 restaurants were the best on the entire island and the resort was clean and well kept. Our room was great, 2 bed/2 bath and looked brand new. We stayed in the "J" bldg about 300 feet from ocean. We saw dolphins several days in the water, the sand was sugar sand and the water was turquoise. We had one small little issue one day with ants but after bringing it to the attention of the staff, they took care of it within 5-7 minutes and apologized. We asked housekeeping for additional shampoo and received plenty. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The drinks by the pool were a little "pricey" but you are on an island on vacation so keep that in mind. We left the day that the hurricane threat was near but the staff was great at keeping us posted. There was hardly anyone there in August and that was just fine with us!
