“Cozy apartment style inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

This is a resort right off the beach.

Staff was friendly and attentive. Rooms are cozy apartment style. Feels like home. Room includes pretty much everything you need. We stayed in a 2 bed 2 bath room.
The closest elevator for us was a little walk from the room.
Resort is peaceful. We didn't experience any noise or privacy concerns.
Plenty of parking spots available.
Periwinkle way is the main downtown where most of the restaurants, market and shopping is. It is about a 5-10 mins drive from the resort.

We did not eat at the restaurant so cannot comment on their food. But the restaurant looked nice.

We got an excellent deal where our room price also included all amenities the hotel offers - kayaks, bicycles, life vests, beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. It worked out very good for us.

They let you kayak right on the sea. The pool and hot tub was nice too.

Overall this is an excellent place to spend your vacation

“Nice room, friendly staff, lots to do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We had a 2-room condominium with ocean view and loved it! It was very clean, comfortable and updated. The front-desk staff was very pleasant and friendly, and we really enjoyed all the amenities including the pool and water slide, ping pong, kayaks, beach umbrellas and chairs, game room and pet room with fish tanks, turtles and guinea pigs. The resort offers bikes, too, though I wish they offered one with a baby seat! Drinks at the pool bar are expensive, but there is a happy hour. We did not eat at the hotel, so I can not comment on the restaurants.

“OK Room; Great Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

The Sundial was somewhere between Average and Very Good, so technically a 3 1/2 star rating.
We got off to a rough start when I had several issues trying to book a Summer Escape package that I saw advertised. No one at central reservations seemed to be able to find the package and when I called the hotel directly I didn't have any better luck. Finally I sent an email through the hotel's website. I'd hardly hit the send button when the Sales Manager called me back and apologized profusely for the issues. My reservation was booked and followed up on within an hour by both phone and email.
The room itself was a basic one bedroom condo. Had everything we needed. Was pretty clean although some minor repairs/maintenance was needed (dirty carpet, old sofa, broken screen door). But nothing that negatively affected our vacation. Other minor "negatives" - we had 4 people in our room, but it only had 2 bath towels and we had to call twice for new ones; no paper towels, wash cloths or sponges in the kitchen (those took 2 days of calling); maid service was erratic (some days we had it, some days we didn't). Again, nothing that ruined our vacation.
We were right across the lawn from the big pool and across the parking lot from the beach. So location was great because we were close enough to hop over anytime, but far enough not to be disturbed by pool noise.
We chose the Sundial because of the recreation amenities, which were great. For $20 per day, the whole family had access to the pool, beach with beach chairs and umbrellas, towels, bikes (kids bikes and baby trailers), kayaks, tennis courts, gym, etc. They also have a great wildlife room with a touch tank where the kids can pick up hermit crabs, abalone, clams, sea urchins, etc. The pool is nice and big; it never felt crowded and had a great little slide in the shape of a seashell which kept the kids endlessly entertained.
We ate breakfast and lunch there and the food was ok, not great, not bad.
Pina Coladas at the bar were AMAZING.
We were there for 5 days and had a great time. It's not 5 star, but it is a great family vacation place. We will be returning next year with more family members in tow and look forward to another relaxing, fun, family vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been updated.

“BEAUTIFUL AND IMMACULATE UNIT Q-204”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Having stayed at Sundial at least ten times from the mid 80's to the mid 90's while making wonderful memories, we decided to return. After reading nagative reviews, I was quite reluctant to make a reservation so I asked to speak with someone who is familiar with specific units. Front desk manager, Marina Bloetz assured me that I would be happy with unit Q-204, and she CERTAINLY delivered! The spacious and quiet unit has two bedrooms, two baths, fully equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, screened terrace, and a gulf and garden view from the terrace. The entire unit is beautifully furnished and everything was immaculate from the kitchen appliances to the bathroom tile. The beach is terrific and loaded with seashells. The grounds are well maintained. The parking is conveniently located, just downstairs from the unit.

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for front desk mgr. Marina Bloetz when making a reservation. She is aware of...

“Nice Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the resort however we were very surprised that it was almost
deserted. There couldn't have been more than a 5% occupancy. Our 1 bedroom was
updated and very nice. The kitchen had everything you would need. We did have trouble
with the card key as it was very hard to get it to work. The main pool was closed one of the 3 days we were there which was a disappointment, but they did take off the resort fee. The main
pool was very nice and although it didn't have beach umbrellas, you could move a chair under
the building overhang. I didn't care for the other pool as they were just cement and no shade.
We did use the kayaks which was fun. This seemed to be very off season and not much going on anywhere and a lot of places closed. The elevator was so small, probably not much bigger than our shower and very slow. I can't imagine how it would be when every unit is occupied.

Dear Judy W,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. September is off-season for Sanibel Island which makes the resort feel quiet and laid back. A lot of local places on Sanibel Island use this time to update and remodel before the season starts. Due to an unexpected maintenance issue, our pool was closed for a few days. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused during your stay. With some changes and updates planned in the near further, we hope to welcome you back on Sanibel Island.

Please do not hesitate to contact us any time for further assistance at 239-472-4151.
