We stayed here 4 nights in an oceanfront with a king bed and fold out couch and loved it. The room was well appointed, the staff was incredibly friendly and we especially enjoyed the smaller nature of the property (only like 30 rooms total). The pool was very nice and they had complimentary lunges and umbrellas on the beach (from what I could see it was the only hotel with their own umbrellas to give out). The other nice touch was the free bicycles to borrow.

Location - we went to beaches from the lighthouse all the way down to Bowman's Beach and in my opinion this was the nicest beach and by far the best place to find seashells. Also because there is no public beach nearby it tends to be much less crowded and very quiet. You were a few minutes from the shops and restaurants but when you were on property you felt like you were a million miles away.

Room - overall very nice but the proportions were somewhat off. You have a huge full kitchen, eating area and fairly good sized livng roon. On the flip side, the bathroom is so small you had to go to the side of the toilet to even open the door and the in the bedrom the bed was so big for the room you had to shimmy against the wall to get around the bed. Other than these two things, we were very happy.

Service - the staff were very friendly and engaging. At breakfast every morning the ladies working would ask about what you did yesterday, give you restaurant recommendations, and suggest other activities to do. The maid service was always prompt and thorough - always cleaning up all the sand we would track in from the beach.

we made reservations for song of the seas beachfront suite for my husband and myself as well as our 2 teenagers. What a mistake. The room was outdated and dirty. There was old gum stuck to the floor in the main room. The furnishings were dated. The bed squeaked and was squeezed into a very small room where you could barely walk between the bed and the wall. The shutters on the outside door were old and the chairs on the porch were wood and rough. Must not have remodeled since the last hurricaine 4-5 years ago. I am not one to complain but most of all what bothered me was that the room was dirty. They had shutters in the room for the windows. Behind tthe shutters, the windows at the bottom were filthy. The screen part of the porch was dirty and had dead bugs on it and it obstructed the view. I would not have wanted to sit on the porch.
The one beautiful thing about the song of the sea was that when I mentioned my concern for 4 of us staying in small quarters(king bed with a kitchen area and sleeper sofa), the front desk recommended that I stay at the Sanibel Inn a sister property next door. The 2 bedroom condo at the Sanibel Inn was wonderful and twice the size as song of the seas and this is the clencher, it was about 100 dollars less. Please stay at the Sanibel Inn, it is a much nicer updated resort. Even the pool is nicer.

Our week in Sanibel (5/17-24) was the best. More rainy than what we expected, but it did not dampen our fun and activities. We found "Song of the Sea" to be very quaint and cozy. Staff were friendly and helpful. We so appreciated the complimentary breakfast each morning on the patio. The menu offered lots of variety, although Belgian waffles and assorted breads to toast were the only hot items. We also took advantage of the compliementary bikes and rode them most mornings. It was great to have actual bike paths all around the island. Our room was just a few steps from the beach and the pool. The private screened porch allowed for some quiet time out of the sun (or rain). Some features in the rooms were dated and could be improved, but the bed was just right! We would still consider staying here again.

There is lots to do on the island, especially learning about the wildlife refuge and conservation efforts OR one can do nothing except to enjoy the natural beauty. We appreciated the many restaurant choices since we did not take full advantage of the kitchenette in our room. We even found a Pittsburgh Steeler's Bar (Great While Grill)!.

Stayed on island a few times in the past and like to try different places to stay. So i went online to check out resorts and hotels on the island and after searching properties decided to go with the song of the seas. We are always leary of booking online because of how places can fabricate their properties this one however was almost 100% accurate. Only difference was the color of the beach chairs. Anyway from the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be a relaxing and memorable experience. From the friendliness of the staff to housekeeping to the people who set up the beach in the am they were always courteous and helpful.I will say this this is a place that is very small and quaint so if you were thinking of taking kids i would recommend one of their other properties as the pool area and court yard are smaller than most {mostly all couples were there just looking to get away for a short vacation}. with that being said what this resort offers is spacious rooms very clean,free bikes for your convience any time,a washer and dryer on site sounds minor but does come in handy when you dont want to overpack,and the use of their other properties which we never got to see. But the best of all is what sanibel is famous for unforgettable beaches and shelling.I do believe this quaint little resort is perfect for couples or groups that want to get away for a little r&r and great beaches. The staff and management team really do go above the expected in making your stay a stay that will make you want to go back time and time again. Just a word to the wise the shops in sanibel are very pricey use caution when making purchases on the island its definetly worth the trip into fort myers pay the $6 to go over the bridge it could save you $100s trust me i found out the hard way of allowing my wife to go shopping for the day on the island then found same brands at the outlets for 3/4 the price. Oh the price we pay to keep em happy lol. Well i do know we will be returning to the island in march 2010 and i know we will be staying at the song of the seas again.
