The amount of hotels and accomodations are overwhelming when you research Sanibel island. We choose Song of the Sea because of it's size (only 30 rooms), pictures on the WEB and other trip advisor reviews.
Well, let me tell you, it was the perfect pick. We consider ourselves very discriminating travelers. We want privacy, great accomodations, moderate price and most of all a quiet place to relax.
Song of the Sea offered all three. The property was beautiful with lots of lush greenery and plenty of space. Although they were completely booked most of our trip, we hardly ever saw anyone. We choose a Gulf front Suite #4035 Catalonia. It was on the top floor and being on the end, we had our own private entrance. The suite had a livingroom with small kitchen attached. The king size bed was very comfortable and the sheets were wonderful.
There was always an over abundance of fresh clean towels and personal products (shampoo, conditioner, etc) for our use.
The complimentary breakfast was great, plenty of fresh fruit, muffins, danish, waffles and cereal. We had a great choice everyday. Breakfast was served on the patio around a beautiful pond and the gentle sound of the water was very relaxing while enjoying your morning coffee. Free newspapers were also available for those who wanted to keep up with the world outside of Sanibel.
After a short walk to the beach, there were complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas waiting for us. (Many other hotels charge for these). The beach was wonderful and only a short walk to the Sanibel lighthouse.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a quiet relaxing vacation. The staff was very friendly and accomodating.
We will definately be going back to Song of the Sea later this year.
Sanibel has done a wonderful job at keeping their island lush and beautiful. Although they have many accomodations on the island and it is a tourist destination, you would never know it. It is not your typical highrise beach resort.
